I've said this before MPs do not have a written job description or a contract unlike the rest of us. I don't believe there should be a mandatory retirement age most companies are abolishing this anyway. However I do think they should have a contract that the voters can then measure and hold them to account. In the last year of his parliamentary career it was suggested that George Osbourne had not visited his constituency or personally held a surgery. Labour had started a conversation on investigating him but he then resigned. If any of this was true it's disgraceful. I don't care how old you are but are you up for the job, how can we measure that if they have no terms of employment. Edited by Badger11 (30 Sep 2019 7.52am)

Your use of the word "personally" implies that surgeries were held but that it was his staff who held them - and presumably reported back to him as necessary. I don't see anything wrong with that for an MP with such a demanding role in Government

Only Anglicans could hold office, although others would have had voting rights by Burke's death.

The level of their income from the parliamentary pension scheme will relate to how long they have served as an MP ie to how long they have been in that scheme. The likes of D Skinner will be entitled to a relatively large pension whereas an MP who has only served a year or two won't get much at all.
