(Incidentally, who remembers the 'Penalty Prize' competition that ran on 'On the Ball' back in the 1970s?)

As Booted Eagle quoted from the West Ham match thread:

Since Crystal Palace were promoted in 2013-14, they have taken the most - 47 -and scored the most - 38 - Premier League penalties.

I invite reminiscences about some of those penalties, particularly about the 9 that we've missed. I'll start the ball rolling by ticking Tekkers v Bournemouth off the list, as enough has probably been posted about that already!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

In a game against Brighton in the late eighties we were awarded four penalties and missed three of them!
(but still won).

I recall this game!
Kelvin Morton was the referee.
Bright,Wright and Pemberton missed penalties.
I think one was awarded against Brighton defender Ian Chapman who in recent seasons managed Burgess Hill Town.
Chapman was, and might still be, the youngest player (16) to have played for Brighton's first team.

Still a world record, I believe (5 penalties in a professional match).

I witnessed it all from the Whitehorse terrace.

Unlike you (Willo and YT) I wasn't actually at that Brighton game, but a pal told me that one of our penalties cleared the crossbar by such a margin that the ball went high into the old Holmesdale terrace before returning to earth. I'd love that to be true, but I suspect it's a huge exaggeration. Any comment?

I have a memory of Pemberton firing high over the bar with the ball returning to earth with snow on it!

My recollection is that it's still rising!

Pre Premier League but Peter Taylor v Millwall in the mid-70s took a penalty that almost went for a throw in.

Yes he did. I was at that game too! It was March 1976 in the third division, attended by 48,000 (as I recall) at Selhurst Park. It was part of the run of disappointing league results that ended with us missing out on promotion, in stark contrast to our excellent FA cup run.

CORRECTION! I just noted my own typo...it was 38,000 not 48,000. (38,075 in fact). Still pretty impressive for a third tier match, and a cracking - if 'volatile' - atmosphere.

He had a habit of hitting the ball with the outside of his boot and got that one spectacularly wrong. Apart from that he was an exciting player.

One of our greatest in my time of supporting, in my opinion. All too briefly though.
