I watched the last 10 minutes of the Sky program dealing with the draft for the tournament and they certainly tried their hardest to "big up" the tournament although I'm not convinced.

Northern Hovis did pick three Durham players in the end but I can't see two of them actually playing. If there's nothing better to watch on TV I might take in a match but I won't pay money to go and watch a game as I don't enjoy cricket enough unless I have an interest on one of the teams and if others feel like I do the whole thing will end up a white elephant.

Spectators only have a finite amount of money to spend on watching cricket and if it's a choice between watching their own team in the T20 Blast or a made up franchise I'm sure that the former will win.

I won't be watching. Really not into slogging unless it's a world cup. I already think 20/20 is just a drink fest and pretty much ruins cricket. No wonder test players cannot put an innings together on a consistent basis.

When it was first 'invented' a mate of mine described it as "cricket for the lager-drinking masses".

In my cricket-playing days, a match of 20 overs (or fewer) per side was known as a 'beer match'.

Those were the days. I used to bat left handed in beer matches.
As for the Hundred most of the "star" players do already or would play in our domestic T20 competition (if released from international duty). If this is a success (and I hope it isn't) it will be the end for counties like Kent.

Interesting article on Cricinfo ( [Link] ) pointing out that the counties playing at the main test playing grounds had more players picked than the other counties with Leicestershire having none picked at all.

Sussex and Surrey had 11 and 9 respectively of their players picked yet Essex who won the T20 Blast had just 4 picked

The conclusion of the article was that if players wanted to play in The Hundred, which they obviously do as it's lucrative for them, then they may well be forced to move to more popular counties whose grounds will host matches
