If the deal is done why the leaking of other bids? Sounds like the deal is not done to me.
If we do pay £19m it must near the most anyone has ever paid for a Championship player? And potentially two thirds of what we might get for Wilfred, which is both staggering and worrying!

This ^^^

Even more so if we do sign him and then it turns out that we’ve paid over the odds on wages too!!!

News Now reporting from a couple of sources that the deal is done.. i havnt put the link in but if its true we will probably start a fire sale. Wilf, Benteke, Sorloth although he's as good as gone and maybe Meyer. High earners off the payroll.

There have been quite a few but most are after a club has been relegated to the Championship so only technically a Championship player.

It's at the top end, which you'd expect, but Brighton paid £20m a pop for Maupay & Webster last year, Maddison was more than that from Norwich a couple of years ago. Sure there's more. Probably loads more. Think that Bowen to West Ham was in that range. I'm guessing that Watkins will go somewhere for more than any of the above.

Eze isn't 28 in a couple of months and on £130k p/w. They're in different categories of transfer really. Wilf's issue is that he is in a quite particular category. Probably best he just stays with us!

The buying club can meet the valuation of the selling club's valuation of a player EG £20 Mill. There can then be an offer on the lines of £15 Mill + add-ons taking the figure up to £20 Mill which might of course NOT be acceptable to the club selling the player.Furthermore the proposed add-ons might not be acceptable in terms of their detail.Let's not forget the payment terms as well, spread over a period.
Transfer deals can be somewhat complex!

We can take it for granted that these multi- million deals are complex. We can take it they sometimes take months to put together let alone weeks.
What is worrying is that this is like any business deal,in so much as the detail involved should not be in the public domain, until the deal is done one way or the other, If negotiations are proceeding in good faith that should not happen. As said let’s hope the journalists have been putting 2 and 2 together and making 5. And Palace have quietly come to an actual arrangement.

It is not the club giving the media a running commentary on negotiations.

Often what one peruses is total and utter hogwash which bears no resemblance to the reality but the rampant speculation stimulates debate.
I have guffawed out heartily in derision, seeing some of the names we are 'Linked' with, knowing darned well they are just not on the club's radar.

If we do actually pay the full £19.5m for Eze then it makes him roughly the 12th most expensive export from the championship. Bear in mind Nathan Ake was sold this year to City for 40m which is officially a Championship club selling...there are a few examples of players getting relegated and then being sold for high fees that might have slipped under your radar.

5 out of that top 10 had prem experience which is important because I presume you were thinking more along the lines of fees for “championship” players. So this fee does put him in the top 10 in that respect but even then it doesn’t give us a true indication...because values go up every year. I don’t think we should compare £19.5m this year to £19.5m 10 years ago.

I can't understand you saying that W, as Messi is obviously signing for us.

It is understood that Lionel Messi will sign for Crystal Palace today and will be opening his new tapas bar franchise at Norwood Junction today - Reuters.

About right for players who garner a lot of press, especially for attackers in the Championship. Some good players like Brooks go for less and more under the radar but this is a minority.
