Islamophobia is the fear, hatred of, or prejudice against the Islamic religion or Muslims generally especially when seen as a geopolitical force or the source of terrorism. The meaning of the term continues to be debated and some view it very problematic.

Several scholars consider Islamophobia to be a form of racism However some scholars view Islamophobia and racism as partially overlapping phenomena and others have questioned the relationship between Islamophobia and racism.
The causes and characteristics of Islamophobia are also subjects of debate, commentators have posited an increase in Islamophobia resulting from the September 11 attacks and other terror attacks in Europe and the United States by Islamic extremists. Some have associated it with the increased presence of Muslims in the United States and in the European Union, while others view it as a response to the emergence of a global Muslim identity.

Your original post could do with some elaboration. Was the steward a Muslim?

That would be pretty unpleasant. It's pretty unpleasant regardless. I would prefer all politics to be kept out of the game. Left and right.

We none of us (I hope) would like to have seen a bunch of Germans chanting the name of their political leader of the 1930s at Jews.

Is the correct answer. Fans should stick to songs about their team or people connected to the club. If you want to sing about TR or JC or Bojo then go on a demo. Football is supposed to be about bringing us together.

As for the OP I agree with others he started this thread so he has a responsibility to clarify exactly what was chanted. If it was just TR please refer to my above comments.

I love the passion of Palace fans and as a committed Palace fan I was disgusted today.

When you have a steward at Arsenal that garners such respect that I feel the need to say what a decent guy he is, rather than talk about how well we faught back today we have a problem. The fact that a group of Palace fans felt comfortable shouting Tommy Robinson chants in a public place is utterly shocking. I am so embarrassed.

Stop it. We are a decent group generally and quite frankly those idiots with racist views can f*** off.

It's been reported and I hope the CCTV and the observation of the steward will mean that those people that felt it was ok say those things will no longer be able to support the club I love.

Explain yourself. You are obviously perturbed.

Regardless of whether it’s racist or not, it’s extremely weird behaviour. Ban them for that alone.

Would it be fair to say that most people's perception of Tommy Robinson is that of a right-wing thug ?

His name, if you didn't know ( I didn't until I looked it up ) he borrowed from the organiser of Luton Town's football hooligan firm.

Quite why a group of our fans felt the need to show vocal support to this man is beyond me.

The only responsibility I have is to report it which I have done, and it's now for the arsenal/palace authorities to deal with or not as they choose. As for the exact chants it will all be on CCTV and observed by the steward. The most aggressive loud chant in my face about TR was said within close range of a lady who was serving who was obviously Muslim. The TR chant was done when I confronted them over original one which was clearly racist to me. That is my last comment on the matter.

Was a bit worried when I saw the title of this thread...

I'm actually more offended that someone thinks singing Tommy Robinson's name is racist, than the act of some lads singing his name.

Not a fan of the bloke, comes across as a hostile very right wing thug. As someone else said, politics should be left at home and not sung on the terraces.

Any idiot that goes to a football game to sing about TR must have the IQ of a flip flop. As Mr T would say "I pity the fools". Pathetic is what comes to mind.

My point and others was that if you want us to comment / support your view a little bit more info was needed. You appear to suggest that there was a racist chant which was then followed by TR chants. If that is the case then the original racist chant is unacceptable but you haven't clarified what that original racist chant was which is why you are being challenged. In short you have provided incomplete information and asked us for our views.

Jim Robinson in Neighbours. Maybe it was racist, after all the land grabbing in Australia off the aboriginals.

Maybe they were just singing "Glad To Be Gay" or "2-4-6-8- Motorway" and people jumped to conclusions.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.
