Since the introduction of VAR we have really benefited and had some crucial decisions go our way. Is this because we are a fast counter attacking team and refs don't always see what really happened or is it just luck and we will eventually have to suffer some not so happy VAR decisions ?

I suspect the latter... both the Villa and Arsenal goals that were disallowed were extremely soft; it either of those got disallowed for us, I’d be fuming.

Supporters were critical of referees decisions on the field of play, insisting they needed help and citing technology. Now criticism has extended to VAR !

I have always maintained that when subjective decisions are made there will always be room for controversy and that it is not a panacea.

It does seem to remove some of the big club bias that referees often seemed to bow to, especially when said big clubs were at home.

Easier to be dispassionate sitting in an air conditioned room at Stockley Park.

They’re making more correct decisions, and this will improve further as the officials become more experienced with its application.

Of course there will always be decisions which divide opinion, but if we can ensure officials are correct more often, it’s a no brainer to use it.

I think its luck and it will even itself out over the course of the season (as do normal refereeing decisions), although I always felt we would benefit more than most due to Zaha regularly not being awarded penalties for fouls in the box.

Although we're getting the rub of the green currently, I still hate it. The Arsenal 3rd goal was a disgraceful decision and someone should lose their job over it.

I said it before and will say it again - too many crucial decisions are subjective and there are not many 'clear and obvious errors'. If each captain was given one review per game to challenge a decision it would cut out this nonsense of checking every goal for 3 minutes.

It's over used and fans are having the glory of goal celebrations taken away from them. Can fans even celebrate now being 100% confident of it standing?

It has been well documented that I don't subscribe to this chain of thought and have had a plethora of fiesty contretemps with debates evolving into dastardly 'Willo threads'.

VAR has ruled correctly on matters of fact ie marginal offside decisions, but whenever subjective decisions need to be made there will always be differences of opinion.I believe that supporters and others hoped that VAR would eliminate simulation but alas decisions relating to this aspect of the game are still open to debate because of their subjective nature.

Finally we have heard about a 'High bar', last weekend it was asserted there was a 'Low bar' and of course there has been some criticism of referees not availing of the pitchside monitors.Debate is more about VAR these days than the actual game!

I do agree things will even out just as referees decisions have done in the past.

In case anyone is counting, its only one VAR decision we have been fortunate with. I don't think the Villa goal went to VAR as it was a free kick for simulation outside the area.

I am sure we will find some decisions unacceptable however the reverse of the yellow card for Wilfred and the award of a penalty on Saturday does recommend it. Wonder if the "rugby tackle" on him would have got a red from a different ref, assuming VAR wasn't used.

I'm afraid Willo that although big club bias may not be a certitude, inflammatory media will bring any referee trouble should their decisions having bearing on the outcome of games, titles, career, etc, and a referee's fear becomes a exponential part of the game resulting in what appears to be big club bias.

It is easy for Clattenberg et al to comment from an armchair, much like us, or indeed Stockley Park, but during a game their mind will always be on the scrutiny they receive based on decisions. Therefore, big club bias should probably read as 'fragile career toeing of the line'. Fear is a big clubs greatest asset, not only against the opposition.

With respect, we are on 'opposite sides of the house' on this matter.

Lets' get back to VAR rather than debating the performances of referees. My views on this matter have been well and truly documented on HOL.

we have had 1 lucky var...arsenal's "3rd".

grealish, the ref blew before and whatever happened was outside the box, so not VAR's remit.

Ayew was onside

Wilf was a pen...

Var has done what it should have done for us.

has it been abysmal elsewhere? definitely. But don't conflate that with what's happened for us. we've gained a point as far as I can remember
