To be fair the Tories have been in power for most of those two generations. But they are able to reinvent themselves each time they swop leader and blame problems caused by their failures on some scapegoat or other.

The fact is Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson is a liar who cannot be trusted on anything.
In 1988 he was sacked from the Times for making up a quote in a front-page story
He lied about laying in front of a bulldozer to stop Heathrow expansion.
He lied when figurehead of the 2016 Vote Leave campaign, saying the UK sent the EU £350million a week.
He lied to the DPU about not letting there be a border down the Irish Sea

Nothing he says can be trusted at all.

Not to pick on you, but, this is the problem right?

We seem to view politics as a match of football, where we support a team no matter what.

Boris did win London twice, but what did he actually do? Not just him, I'm not sure I can actually name a thing of note any London Mayor has done.

This is why I try not to read newspapers and watch things like Question Time, because there's never any in depth discussion on the matters and because papers like The Sun were Labour through and through and now they're full on Conservative. The Mirror is the reverse. How can you honestly switch your views so drastically? I've seen a better attempt in forums like this one, although not always successfully, to try and discuss issues.

Can't believe I'm supporting that filthy rag but switching allegiance could be viewed in a positive light if they shift to reflect changing values of the 2 main parties.

Actually the Sun was always a Tory rag. Tony Blair spent a lot of time smoozing Murdoch and was very happy when he switched to supporting New Labour. I guess the Sun has gone back to its natural roots.

Daily Mirror has never changed solid Labour all the way.

Why did the Sun change, self interest Murdoch could see that Blair was going to win and he always wants to be on the winning side.

The Sun was previously the Daily Herald when it was a paper that gave the working class a voice in the media.
Nowadays it pretends to be for the working class while supporting policies that shaft them. We are all working longer hour and getting pensions later, the NHS is slowly and secretly being sold off, Unions are undermined so working people have no representation. Meanwhile billionaires dodge paying tax and fund parties and own the media that keep it that way.

And wasted £940m on mayoral 'vanity projects'

Garden Bridge £52m
New Routemaster £321.6m
Emirates Air Line £24m
Water cannon £323,000
Hire bikes £225m
Estuary airport £5.2m
Olympic stadium conversion £305.5m
ArcelorMittal Orbit £6.1m

Three of these were a total failure at a cost of more than £57.5m: the Garden Bridge; the purchase of water cannon; and the Thames estuary airport.

Five others: the new Routemaster bus; hire bikes; the Emirates Air Line cable car; the conversion of the Olympic stadium and the ArcelorMittal Orbit helter-skelter, all went ahead at a combined cost of more than £900m. But they all turned out to be far more expensive than promised - just as BREXIT will damage us more than he says.

Judge.
Have you considered that we are being forced to live longer so being more of a burden on the services and the state.
There is an obvious link between health and pension age extension.
The same link between us living longer and NHS usage.
Also all these billionaires and the top 1% actually
Pay 25% of tax take.
Irrelevant what % of what they earn is payed it is still an absolute huge amount.
If labour get in power they will raise tax for the top 5% of earners.
That will be from around 75k upwards.
When the very highest earners give it the middle finger labour will slowly scratch another 1% down then another 1% down.
Before long 40k will have a tax increase.
Then pensions then home owners.
Socialism wants equality.
The only people who will be unaffected are the feckless and work shy.
