Well, that hasn't worked too well with Trump and Brexit.
That was definitely not in the script.

That is why the media is so anti both and why there is a charge to get both situations reversed either outside of the voting booth or with a 'people's vote'.

If anything, the traditional Left should be secretly cheering Trump and Brexit on.

I'd argue it is working a treat. The system is set up so that not much can really get done. The only thing of note Trump has got through are the tax cuts, which were approved by the dems too. Funny that.

I bet newspapers and news show ratings are through the roof since Trump got elected and yet he's done f all for the people he said he would represent apart from criticise the opposition.

Brexit was a shock to the system, but again, it hasn't happened yet and even if it does, the super wealthy will be ok.

As i've stated a couple of posts back, the financial crisis was the real point in time to really make a big change to how we run things but all we got was the top 20% assets saved and the cost was put on the bottom 80% with austerity. I was for bailing out the banks btw, it was the only solution, but dont be fooled, it hasnt been sorted it has just been kicked down the road.

In fairness, praising the IRA just after they had murdered English citizens is a little more unforgivable than international diplomacy with some shady foreigners.

That is right and im not defending him. Politicians have to be judged on competence and character. The problem is that more and more, it is based on character.

I would suggest that at the time of that photo anyone pictured with Adams did not have the best intersets of this country at heart if involved in a cosy tete a tete.

Let's be honest. The super rich are bulletproof in virtually all cirumstances. They don't play the game, they own it.
The rest of us fight for the scraps with any means legal, and sometimes not so legal, at our disposal.

Lots of complaints from opposition politicians that the Tories are offering jobs and honours to buy off Brexit candidates and the like to fix the election.

I think this is disgusting we need a full enquiry into this led by someone who is above reproach how about Baroness Chakrabti?

Christopher Hitchens died at the 'fag' end of 2011. They say Christopher Hitchens's last words were, 'capitalism, downfall'.

Some might say that habits die hard with an old Trot but It was a time where a lot of analysts were still coming to terms with the financial collapse and the response to it.

When Tux posts he often chimes in with fiscal catastrophe as his main theme and it has to be said the west and indeed the developed world runs on debt and everything is on the 'never never'.

The markets are based upon confidence and it all feels uncomfortably like a deck of cards where the 'busts' are more like explosive detonations and the 'booms' are more like recoveries.

Economics isn't a strength of mine but looking long term the gradual social political changes don't feel me with optimism.

Working out what the personal direction should be for the future is the real test of intelligence.

Didn't get that.

Anyway she is a privy councillor.

Maybe. Im indifferent to social changes, as i see it as a sort of evolutionary constant, as in if you managed to live in england between 1700 and 1780, there would have been a social change, maybe not so much in regards to immigration, but quite probably in thought and behavioural acceptability. I would also imagine it is the same in Africa, North America, Asia, etc. Change is a constant, imo, not a variable.

Im not of the opinion that we are at the end of days either, because, at least in the uk's situation, we have much more sovereignty than we have been led to believe, which cannot be said for all the other countries in the euro.

It is quite amusing to me how the working class have been duped into believing the rich though and blindly supporting them and the social elite blindly supporting the greens or labour and, with regards to the working class, it's because a pish english voice is seen to be associated with intelligence and competence. That is what i have seen 1st hand from my parents. They sent me to sort of posho schools to try and give me a better life than theirs. The problem is that i still ended up sounding like steve parish

So, im not totally down on the world, but i think the answer is education, discussion, moving towards a more inclusive and eventually direct democracy.

Really? She is asked by the Labour party to investigate claims of anti-Semitism produces a report which most people feel was a whitewash and a few months later is made a Baroness and joins the Labour party. Naturally those events are entirely coincidental.

Her creditability is shot because the Equalities and Human Rights commission is investigating. The key thing here is that before they announced the formal investigation they had quietly been looking into it which means they believe there is some merit in the accusations.

Not sure what her being a Privy Councillor has to do with anything?

Perhaps I made my original point badly. All parties offer inducements to people especially around election time whether that is breaking the law is a grey area.

I have no doubt the Tories are doing this but so are the others. Prospective donors are given the wink that they will get a gong. Got an MP who's past it and may lose his seat tell him to stand down for a younger candidate but not to worry he will be in the Lords very shortly.

They all do it I wish they didn't but methinks the lady doth protest too much.

Thanks Chris 123.

A very minor BY ( not BI ) election in one very labour ward is not really much of a guide to national election.

Most pundits been wrong both 2017 GE and EU referendum so who know.

Labour front bench is a Star Wars bars of maniacs, imbeciles and self interested patronising champagne socialists ( remember white van comment ) and anyone who isn't at a minimum silent on anti semitism doesn't get a look in.

God save us if they form a government.

Whilst I think Corbyn is appalling at least he is consistently so

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I got it

How she can look in a mirror is beyond me, and she's so self righteous.

Tried to use her peerage to get her son I think into Eton, he ended up going to Dulwich College. Not surprisingly she publicly supports an end to private education as do all the Labour MP's who kids are enjoying that privilege.

It is typical HOL tory twaddle.

It is up to the Met to decide if an offence has been committed and prosecute if so.

If they all shout and scream about it then it is probably true.

Farage is accusing Johnson of it so it is anybodys guess.
