I suppose they’re only going to hold and bring the different sections of the party back together again, but the 2 favourites? Really? KS might cause labour north to stay blue and RLB might keep people doubting their vision, or unplanned bundle of policies continually growing, aren’t possible. But she’s probably the better to achieve what they need to do, however, the odds are the market’s prediction on who’ll become leader so that tells us all we need to know. The better options if Lisa Nandy and Jess Philips aren’t in the running.

I suppose the timeframe to bring the party together is 8-10 years anyway.

Being serious the two blokes are the only sensible options there.

Starmer is a star mentally and by far the brightest among the contenders and Lewis has charisma.

The female options are truly awful...though to be fair I don't know anything about Lisa Nandy....Still, the other options are hilarious....about electable as Kim Jong-un.

Man hating Jess Phillips.....Yes please....Long John Bailey..'Socialism me hearties'..yummy yum.....'White van man' Thornberry.......recks of the Islington set and has as much in common with Labour's lost voters as she does with a salad option.

This is what happens when you push identity politics. So far I have heard leading Labour heavyweights say it must be a woman or a northerner, I have not heard calls for an ethnic candidate but I might have missed that.

Last time I looked Boris wasn't a woman nor did he have a flat cap and kept whippets yet somehow he managed to get them oop north to vote Tory. It's that kind of arrogance (northerners will only vote for northerners) that offends people.

I suspect that most people including northerners would prefer a straight talking politician who can connect with the people and understands their real concerns.

Northerners didn't vote for Corbyn because he was from Islington but because he's priorities seemed to be about stuff that ordinary folk didn't care about. They also know BS when they see it and know that any politician that says it's free means they have to pay for it eventually.

One more point

They’ll come back to vote for staunch remain Keir Starmer? Maybe if and when Brexit is well under way and the fact he and others tried everything possible to prevent it. He does however share some views, or feels the frustration people have with high levels of immigration so that’s in his armour. But if people think that the person doesn’t matter then they have very short memories. It matters every election, including one last month. The Northern women candidates (Jess Philips and Lisa Nandy) could win back the northern vote, the national female vote and the cosmopolitan city vote is pretty much safe labour now so doesn’t matter. Boris got the northern vote because they were bloody angry and felt betrayed, that’s it.

It’s all probably academic because the next election is already a tory win unless world and economic events topple them off their majority.

And has Rebecca Long-Bailey ever cracked a smile or made anyone else smile or laugh? Looks the typical bitter ugly bint. Not sure she’ll inspire enough people.
