What is not genuine about a full back that played in that position for Liverpool and England with another that played full back in Premier title winning team?

Kelly played in that position yes and briefly for England which didn't last long for obvious reasons. As Danny Butterfield played up front for us once and Phil Jagielka has played in goal before. Schlupp wasn't first choice for Leicester and started life out as a striker. Both would now identify with different positions as their default.

That is what I meant by not genuine. I think both have played very well this season but Joel Ward and PVA are first choice full backs with many often arguing we need upgrades on them in the first instance.

I think Kelly and Schlupp have both been fantastic this season and can of course do a job there, but not genuine full backs.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

The point is we have cover at fullbacks by very able players, who give everything for the team. Both have played in that position at the highest level, so to say we have no cover at fullback is nonsense.
It may now not be their preferred position, but better than an overpriced player brought in, that doesn’t fit into Roy’s work ethic.

Apparently Roy Hodgson wasn't always a manager!

...Oh, hang on now, I've checked and yes he was always a manager.

I didn’t make any of the points you seem to be arguing.

I’m very happy with how things are going and think Kelly and schlupp have been excellent, and are both more than able to fill in at fullback, and for that matter I thought Kouyate was our MotM on Tuesday and looks very comfortable at CB.

My original statement was just a slight grumble at a lack of transfer activity which included both full back positions, which Roy has also stated a few times. I was then making the point that neither Kelly nor Schlupp would give their position at full back if you asked them, Kelly is a CB and given Schlupps recent scoring form I would personally like to see him utilised further up the pitch - that is what I meant by ‘not genuine’ full backs, apologies for the mass offence and apparent confusion this seems to have caused.

I would be concerned if our recent transfer activity was viewed with rose tinted glasses because of 2 consecutive wins.
It could lead to complacency and not addressing the issues in January.
Today we’re linked with 28 year old Borini who is out of contract at the end of the season.
A decent player but probably only good for at best six goals a season.
Another older experienced player in line with our recent purchases - and probably on high wages.
I’d like us to look at younger players from the Championship with something to prove (e.g Watkins, Bowen).

Yes, thank you, I’d agree.

We are doing very well atm but I’d suggest that is probably in spite of our transfer activity not because of it.

I think Bowen will have more preferable suitors to us and I fear the same for Watkins, they would also command big fees these days but very much agree with your thinking.
