In 2019, now effectively backing a f***ing long, drawn out farce to ensure that we remained, they get spanked. For my money Corbyn was a c*** in 2017 and remains so in 2019 so that can be negated as the primary factor. But their policy on Brexit has almost changed 180'. Don't get me wrong, I have buckets of corn ready for poppin and my most comfortable deckchair, stolen from a beach in Brighton all set up as I relish these t***s having months, possibly years, long scrap but I have a horrible suspicion that Labour will not survive this now. That there simply is not anybody who can unite them behind one leader and one message. The fault lines might be fatal. All that fun short-lived. And for many years before that

This was the opinion of a senior Labour figure on the night of the election. He had the sense to state the Labour has to start engaging with it core voters not insulting them or ignoring them for the London bubble.

"WE" A reformed EU is needed. Those countries who wish for closer political alignment must be allowed to have it, whilst those who don't must be allowed to retain their independence. A two speed Europe was under discussion 30 years ago. I presented a paper on it to a London society back then. It's not new but it is inevitable. We ought to remain as the leader of the second group. ---- It's pointless talking about hypotheticals. If and when the EU does reform then our politicians will know doubt take a closer look I am not against re-joining a looser alignment as long as power remains with our Parliament. If your correct then the EU has the perfect opportunity now to start that reform when we enter the trade negotiations. They can offer Boris a deal which could becomes the basis for a 2 tier Europe however I think that is highly unlikely. As I see it you are making assumptions that are simply not there at the moment. Maybe in a few years when the EU misses our revenue you could be right but at this moment I have not heard any of the key players urging this.

I might fervently disagree with what I might consider hogwash and dismiss the post in such terms, but alas I don't resort to plummeting the depths by insulting the intelligence of the poster or using other forms of personal vilification. If indeed I have caused any offence by my comments,it has been by accident rather than design and my sincere apologies if this has been the case.

I found political debate on HOL interesting and a beacon of generally good humour and respect for different views. It's when we get to discussing Palace that the veneer of civilised behaviour is exposed !
