Hodgson has said that in midfield we are "Blessed in that department" and have "Strength of numbers" so what may one ask was the rationale for signing Camarasa who clearly never fitted into our system ?

After signing Camarasa,Rakip,Jach,Sako,Sorloth etc is it any wonder that supporters are quizzical about our recruitment?

What you don't say is that two were loans so the club could take a look before spending any significant money - including Camerasa, one was a short term deal (Sako) based on a previously successful spell with Roy, one was clearly an incorrect punt (Jach) but no significant funding involved and the situation with Sorloth is well documented - given his time in Turkey he is perhaps much better than was widely acknowledged.
This window I have read we are again looking at a couple of punts from Scotland - Shankland and the guy at Dundee United. People are often critical of Freedman's ability to find lower level gems although Guiata hasn't turned out too badly.I guess the moral is you have to occasionally take a punt - some work but others don't but just make sure you don't expose the club financially.

I find it galling that he never got an opportunity.
He played 5 mins in the Premier League for us and the club is supposed to form an opinion as to whether to exercise an option to purchase him?
Yes I know we don’t know how he has been in training and the rumour mill has been in overdrive since he hasn’t featured.
What I do know is that he can deliver a good set piece, has a very good shot and is a decent passer of the ball.
All qualities that the squad palpably lack.
In a similar vein Hodgson has been trying to
push Jairo out of the club from the outset.
Firstly to Swansea and then to European clubs.
I acknowledge that Hodgson gets results and , to use the cliche, it’s a results business.
But I despair of Hodgson’s mistrust of skill and it may explain why he has never really achieved the heights in a long career.

I presume Camarasa is now free to talk to the Spanish media about his experience here; should be interesting.
I cannot understand loaning a player who never gets used, that's a waste of a loan. Completely inept recruitment.

My understanding is that there was a loan fee of £1.35 mill.
Never worked out of course but we managed to sign Cahill and Ayew (Permanent) in pre-season and they have proved useful acquisitions.

You are cherry picking as there are a number of decent signing that offset those mentioned. And to be fair of that list only Sorloth cost a significant sum and given he is doing well on loan we may still recover our costs there.

In another post I did mention that in the summer we signed Cahill and Ayew on a permanent deal so not all negative on the recruitment front.

Perhaps there's more to it. Deductions without data - very unwise.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

The reason is attitude. Came in with a billy big bollocks attitude, arrogant, sometimes late for training, sometimes not even turning up.

Clearly didn’t fit the culture and with a poor work ethic. No amount of creativity outweighs retaining a strong team culture.

All that said, surely should have been researched better to avoid wasting everyone’s time. Or Roy took a gamble and felt he could get him working. Who knows.

What is also clear is that he would be playing if he was good enough, for enough and committed enough. At least two of those he was not. Not that hard to understand, really.

If this was /is the case, why did he even get taken on loan? Wasn't due diligence done? Totally inept.
I'm not defending Camerasa btw, just curious about the procedure that brought him here.

I totally agree with this.

Reidewald has shown that we have talented players in the squad he just refused to use.

The manager has surely got to have some say on players we sign?!

Some might blame this on Camarasa's bad attitude, this is all just hear say, but if you know you aren't going to get a look in, then why should you bother.

Roy's been around long enough to know how to keep a job. If he doesn't get involved in transfers, then it's one less thing to be accountable for.
