The tone of the recent comments in this thread have the same "locker room" quality so loved by the man so many of you seem to admire. The politically incorrect, but now impeached, current POTUS. Having heard Lisa Nandy on the Today programme this morning I suspect she will soon be replacing Kier Starmer as the leading alternative to RLB. Whatever your politics we need a functioning opposition to keep any government honest. If we end up with Labour choosing RLB, staying on the same track as Corbyn and just blaming the messengers rather than the message for their failure, then we won't get that. Labour disintegrating and splitting into 2 or more pieces parts which then reform, with others, into a new British centre party may be in our long term best interests. However, the damage that would be done by the Tories, who would then have no immediate incentive to move towards the centre themselves, could be substantial. A Lisa Nandy led Labour party could avoid that. What she said could appeal to both sides of Labour and offer a genuine third way, which sounds pretty radical to me, but could actually appeal to a lot of people. Especially after a few years out of the EU and in Trump's shadow. Lots to watch in the coming months.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I tend to believe it will come down between Starmer and Nandy. But for my money Nandy has the chance to grow into the job. And not tainted by what happened in 2019. Actually offering warnings of what was to come. Starmer is too much of the now, Nandy far more of the future. Still hoping for RLB or even Thornberry but I cannot see either of those making it.

So, albeit from a different perspective, you seem to agree with me! The time for Starmer was last Autumn when Johnson had lost his majority and the door was wide open for a coalition of the like minded to form an emergency temporary government with Starmer as the PM, hold another referendum, hopefully kick Brexit into the long grass and then hold an election. If Labour had any sense then they would have also supported moves to PR. I blame Corbyn for all of this. He gifted Johnson his victory and in so doing has set our country back decades. History will not be kind to him.
