Three months to decide a new Party Leader tells the electorate everything they need to know in relation to the dithering, slow crawl of meaningful activity coming out of Labour. All the more important when there is a dire need to have an effective opposition that really holds this Government to account for its words and actions.

I see the contest as largely irrelevant. I see no way back for the Labour Party. Who-ever they choose they will continue their internal battles with much more vigour than opposing the Tories. I think their time has now gone. I think they will fade and eventually split. There is political room for a truly socialist party, just as there is political room for a truly libertarian one, but I don't think either will ever govern in the UK. This ought to signal a strong resurgence for the LibDems but whether they can rid themselves of their baggage depends on whether the emergence of a charismatic leader occurs. If a 20 year younger Paddy Ashdown was still with us I think our political outlook would now look very different. Nevertheless, vacuums get filled and there is currently a huge one in the centre of English politics. What and who will fill it is going to be interesting to observe but filled it will be. It COULD even be the Tories and Johnson might yet surprise us all by negotiating a very soft Brexit, ignoring Farage and the ERG and moving the Tories onto the high central ground. I am not holding my breath but there have been a few, albeit very tiny, straws in the wind noticeable.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

No I wouldn’t, however if you have a need for an employee who will never answer a question or just completely ignore what you say then there are plenty amongst them to choose from. Should be good if you run a call centre!

I'm hearing Jess ('don't threaten violence to women' (I'll stab Corbyn in the front')) Phillips claimed £207K in expenses in 2018.....mainly to her husband who works office for her. Can you imagined what an excuse in trousers you'd have to be to be hitched to Jess Phillips.
