Given the problems Dougie alluded to in people overpricing their players in light of our AWB windfall,

It was an odd thing for him to say seeing as it was us that pushed the bar upwards with the £50m we got for a youngster with only one Premiership season under his belt

After what Roy, has said ,on more than one occasion , about the need for reinforcements, and the fact that he ,Dougie, and Steve, are on the same page. It has to be a massive disappointment, all round, if nothing comes to fruition .
It has to be the right cost. The right characters. The right talents. For many on here even the right age. So extremely difficult.
It’s not a situation that can now be dealt with in one window, or at least not likely to be. Fortunately because of the performances, being put in ,up to this time, we should manage to see this season out.
Yes ,the longer injuries will clear up, in time ,but we do need at least a couple of full backs, just to take the pressure off players working outside of their comfort zones week in week out, more than likely carrying more minor knocks that would normally get rested.
After all the negative vibes coming from the club, if a decent striker , should turn up this window then things really do look up.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Batman come to us with Wilf plus cash going the other way.Benteke going along with another and a right back coming in .That would not be end of world, as if Wilf going best when we are in relatively safe position.

Roy has more than made his position clear, needing 4/5 signings both for the last and this window.
Should be given the funds necessary to do this,in my view.
However, given our strong performance to date, would not hold my breath and would not be at all surprised if SP comes out with the same usual excuses of just missing targets, over inflated winter window prices even though both he and Freedman have known since previous windows, our obvious shortcomings andwe see little activity.

I honestly think we will be lucky to get one signing a right back .you could nearly hear Parishes wallet slamming shut after the wet spam game .

I think we need both - I was really impressed by Batshuayi, he doesn't feature for Frank and he scored goals for us. He'll want game time with Euro 2020 coming up and we should do a deal - loan or buy.

Does anybody think Roy will get his wish of 4 or 5 new players in January, or is he aiming high to get a couple in and put the board under pressure.

Probably.......Poundland may run a sale.

Amongst other things Roy has said recently, he made it clear in one interview that , loans and freebies would not do.
So for him , first and foremost it is money that’s needed, before they can get what’s needed in the squad.
Let’s face it loans may work short term ,but they are only a sticking plaster, not without cost.
Because of this outlook ,decent fees on more than two, doesn’t seem possible. And that might include Wilf, out the door.

There is no imperative to buy. We won't go down and aspire for no more than mid table and a healthy balance sheet.

Priority remains infrastructure improvement and raising non TV revenue.

I predict a loan and stop gap buy. Add that to the 4 players predicted to return from injury next month or early February and 2 more a month later and that should enable us to meet our modest target.

I'd prefer to say that we shouldn't be going down from our current position, but yes, infrastructure improvement and raising non-TV revenue are important priorities.
As to who comes in, the January window is a difficult one in which to find good players. I suspect there will be a loan or two with the board hoping that will be enough to enable us to keep our heads well above the relegation waterline.

I cannot believe some are saying we don’t need players when Roy himself has said we are desperate for replacements.

We need a right back, we need a left back, a winger and a striker and if possible a creative midfielder.

Wilf going to Chelsea would be ok but I would want Batshuyai and either Hudson-Odoi or RLC in exchange plus they pay our Man U contribution. It ain’t going to happen however.

My order of importance is

1) winger
2) left back
3) right back
4) striker
5) creative midfielder

The following can go

1) Benteke
2) Dann
3) Camarasa
4) Wickham
5) Sorloth

Check out the Palace thread, what players do we need. There are a few on there and they appear to genuinely believe we don’t need any players.

We are currently 3 wins clear of the relegation zone despite being as high as 9th. Yes, I understand all of the arguments that we shouldn’t go down, however 2 or more additional injuries and we could be in deep trouble. Roy sees that, most of us do too, but clearly not all.
