We have only lost once in the last seven games during which time we have had at least six first choice players out injured.
?

We have also only scored 7 times during those 7 matches, which is awfully poor. And the attacking players missing don't increase that number when valid (Townsend is in a bad period, Camarasa can't get in the team if we even clasify hom as an attacking player). The absentees were mostly center backs (where the defence can't really improve much more than this even when they come back).

So the goals will remain pretty much the same if we don't transfer players there.
With 1 goal per match on average the points will eventually seize to add up.

Our wide positions are in urgent need of investment. Kelly is doing ok, but no more and PvA needs proper competition/backup. The lack of width on the right is why we have struggled in some games as when teams successfully shut out Wilf there has largely been no real option on the right. As a minimum I would say we need a winger or striker to make up the front three and a new fullback, ideally one who can play on the right or left.

This is not just about results, but it is also clear some players are playing through injuries which could have long-term implications with players such as PvA clearly being rushed back too early.

I think we'll actually see some activity this window as Roy has been becoming very vocal on the need for investment and behind closed doors I think he can be quite tough. I think we might see as many as four players come in, although I do think Camarassa will go and possibly Wickham.

This would suggest our squad is capable of maintaining our position in the league without new additions.
If this is an acceptable statement then our signings should only be players that strengthens our team as the 25 are good enough.
So what type of player should we be signing in January?

Good post. Don't think we can rest on our laurels this season with this squad. We should be strengthening our squad beyond the end of the season if we can. New players usually need time to bed in. Obvious hole is a decent striker. The fly in the ointment is how much we have to spend.

Think we might see Wickham, Dann and Camarasa depart, I think it will be interesting to see if Riedewald develops in a possible Left back with his extended run

Townsend injury has been a blow but on the upside Meyer is getting more game time, as well as Tekkers when he was fit. If 4 do come in, let's hope they actually get some game time in a team with a fairly long injury list, unlike Camarassa.

Jeremie Frimpong at Celtic is a good player. 19, Dutch right back who’s good going forward. Wouldn’t cost much either.

Good shout and exactly the type of signing we need. So we will get a thirty year old holding midfielder.

Yes, but, by God, let's HOPE that Benteke leaves...If the rumours were true and they extend that 120k month contract.....

I wouldn't mind those wages for him.
120k a week is more the figure I'm afraid.

He certainly knows how to score (except against Celtic) but he’s also had 39 yellow & 7 red cards in two and a half seasons.
