Apparently there was an obnoxious Vegan on the ITV breakfast show the other day shouted down anyone who dared to offer an alternate opinion.

This caused a fuss amongst the vegans on social media and I think they had a point. They were quick to condemn this man as just plain rude and obnoxious and to point out that ITV should not have invited him onto the show.

Apparently there are plenty of well known reasonable vegans but I guess that doesn't make for good TV.

It's like when they interview football fans and go for the knuckle draggers.

This week in court a vegan has won the right for veganism to be treated as a philosophy / way of life. I have no problem with that it's what comes next I am concerned with.

No doubt people like Mr Obnoxious will be demanding it is taught in schools under the RE banner and then they will be demanding tax breaks special status in law etc. etc.

What might be concerning is if enshrining veganism in law will eventually extend to making it a hate crime to take the piss out of it.

Rudely ridiculing a vegan in public is unfair, but I would not criminalise someone for doing so.

My daughter is a vegan. She is also a prospective councillor for the Green Party and lives in Brighton so that says it all I suppose

I have a vegan son and a livestock farmer daughter

My opinions take into account both viewpoints

We need to eat meat, just far less. We need mixed farming that benefits from the animals. But over the whole planet we need massive change. The uk is at the forefront of much of the development. For example our beef creates two and a half times less methane than that from the rest of the world.

Perhaps you too could benefit from the wisdom of your offspring Midlands. But forget that Tottenham nonsense.

Good to hear, like a lot of people I get a bit fed up with the Extinction Rebellion people berating us.

I will keep saying this they need to stop virtue signalling and start campaigning for positive things.

Any idiot can point and say isn't this awful. I have more respect for people who go off get an education and then use that to try and solve the worlds problems. Those are the people we should listen to.

As Becky suggested earlier we need to stop importing our food and go back to seasonal local produce. When I was a child I used to look forward to the different seasons e.g. strawberry's in the summer etc.

If Vegans were to promote that lifestyle and urge us to reduce meat consumption then you are combing veganism and combating global warming if done in the right way, positive and not hectoring I think people would listen.

The uk meat industry is trying to embrace social change. Sadly most farmers learn from their parents and are highly set in their ways.

Take a look at this for inspiration.

Depriving yourself (men) of a good fish supper, and forcing your partner not to eat meat, seems a real passion-killer.

Where do vegans stand on fish ?

Because enzymes in fish guts are used to clarify alcoholic beverages. (although the enzymes are removed before packaging)

I think you have to be reasonable in your approach

In the 1980's I was seeing a vegetarian girl. She was the daughter of a Welsh sheep farmer, but she drank alcohol, and when requested, was very keen on eating (my) meat.

Isinglass isn’t an enzyme it’s crushed swim bladder. Sawdust is used as an alternative in vegan beers.

Vegans are vegetarian but stricter. Few fish are vegetable albeit who knows about the sea cucumber.

That legal ruling set an interesting precedent. Apparently he was dismissed for revealing details of his company’s pension fund investments in others involved in animal testing. Presumably from now on anyone of any religious, sexual, personal or political persuasion can cite this case in defence.
