That's how awb is so good on the right.
On the left is the same principal.
Pva plays front on so can be wrong footed more easily.
I could see reidewald being a diamond in the midfield spraying passes.
Trouble being he thinks quicker than some of our players due to his early training in holland.

You're exagerating wih the diamond in midfield part. The lad has decent passing, all Dutch players do, it's what they learn in their academies. Played 43 matches out of 163 in his career as a defensive midfielder.

He doesn't have any assists or key passes from that position. He's a neat passer of the ball, like holding midfielder ranging from Matic to Fernandinho to Eric Dier to Luka or Kouyate. There are already plenty of these playing in our midfield.

In fact, I think 1 starter should suffice. And besides him should be a Cabaye type, a real threat to the opposing defences. We're already playing Luka and Kouyate or Luka and McCarthy together and it shows that we don't score more than 1 goal per game, very rarely 2 goals.

Riedewald is no Pirlo or Pjanic or Toni Kroos or even Cabaye to make kncredible passes from midfield or to break towards the opposing goal and create superiority (something which Cabaye did in his first years). He's just a central defender who COULD play holding midfielder if the game demands it.

Just asking. I want to know what the common opinion on this thread is.

If 2-3 attacking options are brought in this wonter, then I don't know if Roy can keep all 3 left backs (PVA, Schlupp, Riedewald) in the Premier League 25 men formation. Some players will have to be left out. And having 3 players in 1 position is, frankly, too much. Riedewald has the advantage that he can cover at center back and defensive midfielder too, but these positions seem filled with 4-5 players each as well.

Roy has been using Schlupp fuether up, as an attacking winger, but he's honestly just one sided. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen Schlupp play on the right, as an inverted winger. And you have to at least be able to provide some passes and assists from inverted winger position as well if you want to play in attack. He has scored a couple of goals, but nothing amazing given the playing time he has had.

Schlupp's main problem is that he played galf the matches in his career as left back and half as left midfielder, so we're not sure what he really is, but I'd say he's more a left back because of the above, that an attacking player would need to be able to at least try to play on both sides (Tonlwnsend, Zaha, almost everyone on the Premier League).

But is he better than PVA or Riedewald? Well, Schlupp has the best physique. PVA seems the best for me. He has speed, he is great in attack, it's no wonder Juventus is asking about him and many team would be willing to pay at least 10 million for a 30 year old.

Riesewald might just get the notch ahead of Schlupp given that Schlupp is also out for a while and that he has gotten a run in the first team with good results.

Would you be ok with Schlupp being left out of the 25 men squad if 2-3 other (better) attacking options (strikers, wingers) come this winter?

That's all speculation. You don't really know any more than any of us do. Reidewald played a beautiful long pass in the last cup game. He may very well have those passes you speak of in his arsenal.

He lacks strength all over the pitch, given space to move he does well, not given any he struggles ..needs to drink some of what Zaha drank to improve his power.

Its so frustrating, technically very good but is like watching an u12 play amongst men. He also slows down our counters somewhat.

But Roy has had far more draws. Draws are better than they appear as the other team only gets one point. It’s the wrong stat to look at win ratio in isolation. Unless of course your glass is perpetually and irritatingly always half empty.

Interesting.

Draws are indeed very much underrated by the posters on this site. Which is why I asked for the points ratio.

Is there a site where these stats can be found?

MOTD, expected goals for us 1.5, for Norwich 1.3 but all they showed was the misses by Norwich and how unlucky they were not to win the game, Kelly should have dealt better playing offside for their goal and they basically had three other opportunities including hitting the bar, I remember four good opportunities for us with three mad scrambles in their box to clear the ball away not including our goal, they showed just one of our chances and of course Wickham's goal ..but they made the game appear as if we were totally outplayed

He didn't have them in 43 matches as defensive midfielder in professional football.

Every team plays there with a central midfielder who has at least decent feats in the Premier League. Even apart from the Big 6 clubs, Wolves have Joao Moutinho, Watford have Doucoure, Newcastle have Shelvey, Brighton have Mooy, Everton have Tom Davies or Delph, West Ham have Wilshire or Noble, Aston Villa have McGinn and Hourihane and so on. Even Norwich has central midfielders like Vrancic (17 goals and assists from centralm midfield last year in the Championship) and Stiepermann.

We play with both Luka and Koyate (or McCarthy). And instead of bringing in a player who is actually as good as the ones said above, you would have Riedewald (a center back who wasn't even playing 1 week ago) to be playmaker in the center of the pitch? Will Riedewald ever be able to provide 8 goals and 4 assists in 4 months like Shelvey?? Or something like Mooy?

Didn't see motd. But I saw the match on a decent stream. I thought we far outplayed them up until the final quarter of the pitch. Then we couldn't produce a goal (not unusual). They were on the back foot most of the game. Their goal was against the run of play, even as early as it was.

Reading these posts on here during the game I thought I must be watching a different match.

Maybe the panel of motd were posting on here???

Mr Hodgson thankfully takes the task of defending seriously, Mr Pardew just wanted to outscore the opposition which he openly admitted.
On too many occasions he placed subs moving forward when it was extremely obvious to everyone watching that we needed help at the other end, sometimes it actually worked but inevitably it cost him his job.

I was quite sad to see him go to be fair, football was exciting under him because he wanted goals, but in the end he just did not understand or want to learn when to give it a rest and honestly try to defend in numbers as to be able to do it properly.

Mattteo commented earlier about whether there was space in the squad to keep Riedewald, Schlupp and PVA. It's worth remembering that we have five goalkeepers named in the 25 man squad. We clearly only need three so there are two spare places that can be filled with outfield players.
