Greece and Turkey are not the best of friends. So the Greek flag was not mistakenly held up as the Turkish flag it was held up to provoke.

Anyway seemed to put in a fairly decent shift yesterday by all accounts. If he keeps it up and starts to find the net, then fair do's.

My recollection is that he was at the airport when we dropped out interest because Roy wanted Sorloth. (Be fair; Sorloth's probably done better in Turkey so far than Cenk did). A few subsequennt sour grapes were understandable, And, if you think it through, revealed commendable disappointment. He looked properly chuffed to be running on for the home teamat Selhurst.

Tosun scored 80 goals in Turkey.
Thus far Sorloth has scored 12 goals but of course he has played far less games than Tosun did.

I'm sorry but that's simply not correct.

It's fewer games.

I really hope that Cenk Tosun does well in Crystal Palace. However, I'd like to say that sitting mostly on the bench at Everton for so long didn't help him out either.

Guys, I don't want to burst your bubble; but, generally, CTosun does not have speed so playing as a lone striker is not his strongest suit. I have watched him in the most recent Euro games with Turkey, he's even become slower.

On the other hand, Cenk Tosun does better when paired with another striker. He is good aerially so crosses will help him. He's physically strong, he can press. He's good technique for a striker so he can hold the ball on his feet. He can pass and shoot well from the distance. He is a good finisher; definitely, better than DCL. But the pace of game in the EPL makes him look worse than what he is capable of.

Btw, he didn't speak negatively about Crystal Palace. At the time, Besiktas FC was the champions in the Turkish Super League; and also, the club competed in the European Champions League. He wanted to be part of that success. Besiktas barely missed the knock-out stage while the team played well and did not lose any of the matches in group phase. They went on to compete Europa League, and they barely missed the semifinal. Besiktas played the best football in Turkey and he was the top scorer in the Turkish Super League. For the first time, he was getting regular playing time and he was a starter at Besiktas. His performance in Europe and Turkish Super League for a year and a half were his best years throughout his career. It was all hard work.

Yes, he received calls from the Turkey national team many times before and he also played many times for them but he's been generally a backup striker. Prior to Besiktas, CTosun was ignored when he played for a mediocre team where he was the star and scored the most number of goals for his team but he was never a prolific striker except during those eighteen months. He is industrious, and works hard. He doesn't give up easily. Not many players continue to have a successful career after moving from a mediocre team to one of the big-three (Istanbul) clubs in Turkey. Money, fame, city life destroy their career but CTosun has a good upbringing with strong values. He's German discipline.

You'll see him running a lot on the pitch, pressing, creating space, getting the center backs off of their positions. That's what he also does; in Turkish national team; and then, if he scores through a cross with a header or tap-in, or shoot from the edge of the box occasionally, it's even better. good luck to Cenk Tosun in his new destination.

TBH I am not bothered with the lack of speed nor the fact he is not used to being a lone striker.

We don't really rely on a lone striker winning balls and holding up play anymore, neither do we have the midfield to be forever playing him in behind the defence.

In fact, we lack any real attacking strategy altogether beyond play it around slowly then 'give it to Wilf'.

As long as he gets himself in goalscoring positions, unlike a certain Belgian who will go unnamed, puts in a shift and gets on the end of a few crosses he should do fine.

Thanks for the post however I thought it was interesting.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
