I reckon I could feck the feminism out of Dr Who. Which considering I grew up watching the assistants in some rather fetching mini skirts and the Dr being a rather detached old bloke isn't something I thought I'd ever say.

I don't go near BBC Dramas and comedies these days - pre Thatcher there was more experimental broadcasting, Play for Today, Arena and the comedies had a lot more substance than recent ones. You don't want that creative spirit forced into the margins so I hope the beeb will keep doing that BBC4 stuff, Adam Curtis and Jonathan Meades do some great docs, and Simon Schama's History of Britain was fab in the main (didn't like the modern history ones so much). Something has been lost, I find the presenters on Breakfast and the One Show so smug and beholden to whatever bullsh*t they have to peddle. I haven't got a lot of time for the beeb, very pro monarchy, but I think it is a force for good overall.

We have more than 2 1/2 channels now. And technology. Generally. I know, but what can I say? I accpet I constantly pull my kids' legs, but when I told them we only had 3 channels - one of which was part time - which switched off before midnight to the national anthem (where a sizeable number of the population stood to attention until completed before turning in) they actually thought I was taking the p1ss.

Generally, if on BBC4 (foreign and thus outside the inclusivity laws that blight the Beeb) or BBC2 it will be of "good" quality. And sometimes BBC1 strikes gold like the Trial of Christine Keeler which is actually quite good. However, given the crypto-political content of all BBC dramas, I am surprised there is nothing more overt and cutting edge like Play for Today right now. In these turbulent times we are crying out for it. Sadly, if you pitched such an idea, the BBC would readily embrace the concept but they would all be of the ilk of a troupe of black lesbian clog dancers from Cleethorpes fighting prejudice.
