Thinking about doing a little You Tube documentary detailing the story behind the decision to let Liverpool back into Europe at our expense. We were totally shafted. The injustice of it still hurts and it seems to have been airbrushed out of history and no one really recalls it. There’s obviously some decent interview clips on our Centenary DVD, of Coppell, Wright, Bright, Thomas talking about it. If there are other interviews - filmed, on pods or just written - that people can recall the event being talked about, then please let me know when and where you heard it. Doubt there’s much out there to be honest.

Thats why i like var, it can only work for the likes of us against the glamour teams, so wouldn"t moan to much about waiting a minute or two for a decision, we might of been 1-0 up early on in the fa cup final the other year with it! Agreed. Interesting to see how Martin Atkinson treats Wilf tonight ( I think there is an issue with him) but at least Andre Marriner is in VAR ffs

Grudge-bearing older HOL members will also recall another injustice meted out by the FA to CPFC. This was to end for the 1990 FA Cup final the age-old tradition of giving the two participants an equal number of tickets. The FA decreed that for the 1990 final, the allocation of tickets to the two finalists would be weighted according to their respective average attendances. Hence Moan Utd received a substantially higher number of tickets than CPFC. What made this particularly unpalatable was that the decision wasn't made at the outset of the competition (which would have been bad enough) but once the two finalists were known. As such, it was a direct discrimination against CPFC in favour of the Mancs. As with the return to European competition, Ron Noades tried to appeal against this decision, gaining support from a number of other clubs, but needless to say the usual favouritism and vested interests won the day.

Too busy falling over themselves to celebrate Liverpool’s return. They obviously reported on Coppell and Noades immediate outbursts when the ban was lifted; especially Coppell who was uncharacteristically aggressive in his language and ripped the FA and UEFA to shreds. The fact that such a normally mild mannered and fair man as Coppell reacted like that said it all. The media of course saw it as good copy but that was all. I remember a few letters appearing in football magazines in protest by other supporters - notably an Everton fan, but my memory is that journalists just shrugged their shoulders and said, ‘Well Liverpool finished above Palace - what are you moaning about?’, totally negating the fact that the rules of a sporting competition had been changed with 3 weeks of the season to go. Can you imagine next season if Man City still have their European ban; Man U (or anyone) have sat comfortably in 5th for 5 months thinking that because Man C are clearly finishing in the top 4, 5th will grant you a Champions League place, but then with 4 games to go, City’s ban is suddenly rescinded and Man U lose out.... It would cause an absolute eruption and just wouldn’t be allowed to happen. We were well and truely shafted but we just didn’t have the power or friendships within the FA and UEFA to do anything about it. The nub of it is that financially it served Liverpool, the FA and UEFA to have such a prestigious club with huge fan base back into Europe.

Normally I don't carry grudges life is too short, however football is the exception I never forgive those that do our club wrong so I love a good football grudge.
