I have posted a lot of negative stuff since yesterdays defeat - a lot of general stuff.
Specifics on yesterday -
- Another referee sends their full back off and they play 60 mins with 10 men - I have now seen the tackle and it's touch and go whether it wasn't a straight red on its own merits.
- A proper centre forward would have got a hat trick yesterday - two in the first half and one in the second.
- One error cost us a point.
The above though disguises the consistent malaise in the the whole club though but with a bit of luck it might have been a win.
Just balancing my positive/negative books that's all!

How did Roy pick that midfield? And why did he persist with it

What I find pathetic is all this condescending rah-rah from overseas 'supporters'. Commit yourself to the 33 home games that I've done in the past season and a half then tell me I've nothing to whinge about? Statistically the most unproductive and impotent team in the league.
My comments are little to do with losing one match which we were actually deserving of a at a least a draw but more to do with the methods of the board and team management to continue surving up the dross.

Such opinion is my own mate and doesn't need your approval or ridiculous advice towards suicide. Sick.

I couldn’t agree more. Nobody is moaning about losing a game but just the constant way we continue to play. It is dire to watch week in week out. When the faithful boo at the end then you know there is an issue. Some of us want a bit more than just to survive. If it was our first or second season you could say little club in a big league etc but we should be established now. Look at wolves and Sheffield United, nobody seems to think that about them.

We need to move forwards and for whatever reason and whatever is going on behind the scenes we are not able to, but that is no excuse for the way we set up and the choices our manager makes.

Why do none of our strikers score?

Why are we one of or the lowest scoring sides in the country?

Why does our player of the month get dropped for no reason?

Why does Luka go straight back to free kicks and corners when we actually scored from a corner while he was banned?

Roy clearly drills the team hard in defence, that’s clear as we actually have a great defensive record but what is being done about when we get broken down or an error occurs. Everything goes out the window. We were well on top yesterday up until the error and then Sheffield United started looking like Man City.

Why take Benteke off? We need a goal so give the fella some ammunition by getting andros on and getting balls in from both flanks and high balls. Not pretty but it’s not working with us trying to be a passing side. All this side to side and backwards sh*t is getting old really quick.
Ironically once Benteke went off we started slinging balls up... why not do that with him on.

And yes I know he is having major trouble hitting the arse of a cow with a banjo, but remember when we didn’t get anybody else on deadline day.

Even if you accept the argument that Hodgson has not been supported in the transfer market ,his role is surely to get the best out of the available resources.
He seems to have decided that this is to try and keep it 0-0 until half time and then hope the opposition make a slip .
But if this doesn’t work then what?
We looked clueless against Southampton and Sheffield Utd when they went ahead.
Surely you have a plan B if plan A isn’t working.
Yesterday we took Benteke off and put Townsend on - the guy who may be able to supply crosses that Benteke requires.
We then seemed to try Ayew and Townsend up front in a two man frontline for about five minutes.
We then stuck Cahill up front and I got lost as to who was playing where.
There was no evidence of any strategy or thinking from the dugout.

100% correct. Especially the yellow / red card.

From the Holmesdale it looked a certain second yellow, and now now after forcing myself to watch MoTD it is unbelievable he was not sent off.

So I get home at gone 10pm after train trouble and ask myself, "will I make that 200 odd return journey again to watch the same football"?
Probably, yes.
Let's face it we are all frustrated after yesterday, me also. I sense that much of what has been written on this thread is not so much about yesterday's game but about the way we play at home since Roy has come in.
Looking at yesterday first:
1. Sheffield Utd have the 2nd best defensive record in the league and demonstrated why that is. They are well drilled.
2. We bossed the first half and played some nice intricate football in the opponent's half.
3. We were unlucky not to score, especially from the chance at the far post when the cross was slightly deflected by their defender.
4. At half time I was fairly happy with how we played
BUT THEN
5. One moment of a combination of luck, wind and Vincente's wrong decision changed the game in that we seemed to lose all confidence and control and the Blades started to show they did have a bit of an attacking threat as well as a superb defence.
IN conclusion, this was a game we didn't deserve to lose but then how often this season have we taken points we didn't deserve?

One final frustrating thing is that we can play on the front foot as we did in what I consider was our best home performance, the defeat against the runaway leaders, when we went toe-to-toe with them and our wingers kept their full-backs occupied for much of the game. If I'm going to watch us lose, that's the kind of game I want to see.

It’s a real indictment of Hodgson’s management that nobody in the ground seemed remotely surprised that we lost that game yesterday.
A newly promoted team has done the double over us and we have failed to score against them.
They’re a decent side ,but nothing special, and we can’t claim we’ve been unlucky against them in either game
One of my old colleagues used to say ‘ the real crime in life is to aim low and still miss ‘ and I sometimes feel we are guilty of that under Hodgson.
He couldn’t hide behind injuries or tiredness yesterday so then trotted out the excuse that ‘we weren’t scoring with these same players before their injuries either.’
Accept some responsibility for what’s happening on the field.

We played ok in the first half and, as you correctly pointed, a decent cf might have had a hat-trick. Benteke’s shooting is pathetic. We also had a couple of decent opportunities to equalise. Tomkins missed what looked a sitter from my seat and MacArthur had a chance shortly after they scored.

Agree it’s a difficult watch and the inability to respond when we go behind at home is massively frustrating.

Yesterday when we were a goal down players seemed not to want to take the responsibility to cross or shoot and at one point when we had the ball near their corner flag all three of our midfield players were still on the half way line.

Same formation has picked since the second game of the season. It didn't work against Sheffield United away, so he tried exactly the same thing at home.

His tactics have cost us more points that we have earned though them this season.

In truth it isn’t about yesterday’s match as I think we played well enough to win but didn’t put chances away? Plus the ref made a huge mistake and our keeper made a howler :-( If we had played like that in the last couple of months we would have a few more points and be safe. I now think we are in big trouble as I’m not confident that we will play as well as yesterday in matches to come and if we do we need to put chances away? Certainly not wanting Hodgson out as a new manager won’t be able to save us with the aging and not that great squad we have. Think Hodgson works miracles with that squad? Just going to hope he can keep us up but then say goodbye to him and hope a new manager can take us forward for next season onwards - I have huge doubts that it will be possible though without a massive change in personnel as we don’t have money available to do that - looking like a Sunderland/Portsmouth time ahead for us fans :-(
