It appears you don’t like much of anything or many of anyone. So I am sure foreigners won’t take it personally.

Harsh but fair. I tend to keep my criteria for 'liking' based on who would turn up for my funeral if I were to leave this mortal coil in the next 24 hours. If I think you might show up, I tend to consider you a friend. If not then I tend to be largely indifferent. Oddly enough within that specific criteria there are probably about 50% of foreigns but as I rule I tend to keep my distance if I can.

However much the same can be said of most Brits as well so I like to think that in this part of my life I am an equal opportunities grumpy old b******.

Is it? Or just realistic? Who do you genuinely consider a friend? If the s*** hits the fan in your life and you need to make a call at 3am in the morning, how many numbers have you got to dial?

I am blessed in that I believe I have more than most. But even then, less than 25. And that is fine. If you want a perfect world then it is really simple.

Just take care of the two people who live either side of you. If they then do the same and so on and on, that is it. Almost all the worlds ills solved in one single stroke. Nothing more than good neigbours. All it takes.

But most people would rather tell us how much they care about strangers. Nothing more than Virtue signalling. With the Left the biggest culprits.

People like to tell us all how caring they are about absolute strangers but the reality is that most of them don't even know the name of the people they live next door to, let alone actually talk or be there to help them.

I take my duties as a friend and a neighbour very seriously. But I cannot pretend to genuinely care that much about the plight of those who are outside of those circles.

In all honestly, would you say that your foreign friends know that you don't like many foreigners?

Also isn't your wife foreign? I hope you like her at least. Though that one is self evident I suppose

Most of them aint to keen on them either. Trust me when those people wash up on the beach at Dover then if they get a NI number and the right to remain I can guarantee you that within 5 years they are reading the Daily Mail and moaning about the new wave arriving who are not as hard-working as they were. The Left might champion migrants but the irony is that they are almost all far more socially conservative than us Gammons.

And when the absolute contradictions between even the mildest interprations of Islam and their Progressive chums come to the boil, the s*** will hit the fan big time. That really will be the clash of civilisations.

If I have some full on Muslim living next door to me then we might not want our kids to marry each other but I can guarantee that we have far more in common than any Left Wing/Progressive type would with either of us.

Most people tilt towards self interest, and so I certainly don't doubt that some to want to pull up the drawbridge once they're well established here.

It will be interesting to see what a post Brexit immigration landscape is like. I have very little faith in government of any political shade, and therefore wouldn't really expect much to change.

In my experience your last paragraph is spot on

Very funny sketch about 2016 election night...2 black friends watching election night with young liberals. Leave any predispositions aside and give it a watch.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.
