Ok.

A little bit of research done (which can be a dangerous thing, I concede).

When it comes to domestic enforcement, the National Guard are not under any kind of Presidential command. Authority lays solely with the Governor.

So essentially the regular Army are not being trusted.

Potentially very interesting.

Well I’m guessing that if the regular army came across the National Guard, there would only ever be one winner but it is very unlikely to come to that. I do pause for thought however when I consider the likelihood of soldiers of any sort being prepared to shoot their own people and the national implications of that. If they want another Civil War then this is the way to give it a kickstart that’s for sure.

For some this would be like Jesus arriving again and announcing that Mohammed was right.

Admitting you were wrong is very difficult for some people. By the way, Trump's approval rating is now at 37.6% more than 20% lower than his disapproval rating, measured by the same 538 poll of polls that was referenced last week:-

Criticising your own supporters tends to do that.

You continue to waffle about Trump even when he's been censored. However, Trump had 88 million twitter users....over four times Biden's....and we get told Biden gained the most votes of anyone ever.

So far as I am aware it's always the National Guard that is deployed under State authority for this kind of thing and not the Regular Army under Federal control. Something to do with the Army not being used against it's own people.

The level of security seems to be in response to the perceived threat. Which is as high as it is because of the rhetoric from Trump both before and after the election.

If he had graciously conceded, promised to help the new administration but also to rise again and work hard for the values he believed in, then people would be concentrating on that and not on any thoughts of election fraud.

Sorry to say it again but the blame for this lies almost solely with Trump.

Gore didn't concede for 37 days.

I have zero issues with Trump not conceding and his 'rhetoric' was fine.

The problem is with people like you not being able to accept that America is beyond polarised and that the Democrats created that over the last four years far more than Trump.

This is very confusing - DC doesn't have a governor, so who is in charge of the National Guard in attendance?
I thought National Guard were under Fed i.e. presidential control. That's why they were sent into places like Mississippi back in the day because the local cops couldn't be trusted to enforce the law.
Also, do you mean the army "are not trusted" generally in crowd control (because they might go crazy and shoot everyone) or "are not being trusted" this week, against normal practice, because there is a fear they will take sides with one or the other?
I also imagine there arent enough local DC police to do the job.
So is it an issue? I don't know!

Pretty sure it’s as above. Makes no sense to bring in the army when the national guard are available. As far as I was aware it’s levels of escalation. Don’t see why you’d jump straight to army on the streets - sends a pretty significant message and is probably far more costly. When was the last time troops were deployed domestically anyway?

If you’re implying this somehow opens the possibility for an army vs national guard fisticuffs you’re a loon

I think it was against college students during the Vietnam war.

Oh and how the left barked.

And I imagine there were plenty who were screaming at their TV screens to lay in a bit harder!
The media loves to see the police / army wading in - no matter who the protesters might be - sells papers and keeps people glued to the screen.
I'm getting to think we were short changed last week.. maybe we will get double portions on the 20th?

I doubt we will see much action in Washington, but there are 50 states and a s***e ton of angry people.

It's a trap for the right, and even if they stay away Antifa will probably use the event themselves.

I expect stuff to happen....perhaps there will be twists no one saw coming.

As I followed Trump, and don't Biden, I don't think there is too much positive to be read into those statistics. Many people like me followed Trump simply to understand what the bs of the day was. I then read the comments which generally dismantled it very effectively. No need to do that with Biden. He doesn't make policy on his own in the middle of the night. He consults and then announces through official channels.

The number of their Twitter users being somehow relevant to the number of votes they got is bs worthy of the unlamented soon to be ex-President himself.

Just a couple of points.

Essentially the National Guard are the Army. Same uniforms, equipment. Our equivalent of the Territorials. On the streets you have a solider.

In terms of the possibility for an Army v National Guard fisticuffs then I would argue that in terms of the command structure for this particular event the possibility does exist. Each branch ultimately answers to a different person. Does that therefore mean I think this will happen? Then, and by a clear margin, I would say no.

But still, the issue remains around why are they using military forces on this scale for what is primarily a crowd-control issue? It is ALWAYS a poor idea to deploy military troops in any kind of civil disorder scenario. That is not their role and they are not trained for it. Friend of mine who have been in the police even question at times the wisdom of employing ex-military for a variety of reasons.

You ship in other police units. Bring them in from across the state. Utilise county forces if you have to. But putting troops on the streets to control civilians is a sign you have lost. Of weakness. Of no faith in the actual people tasked to maintain law and order.

Unless you harbour serious fears about a sustained and planned attempt to use armed force to prevent Biden being made President. And there is only one organisation in the US truly capable of making that happen....
