All this food shortage and stuff proves what a greedy and selfish society we live in!

When things are scarce, people go robbing.

That's how the poor survive

The respective levels of poverty and suffering were very different to this current situation. When you literally cannot get your hands on basic neccessities then some people will steal. Others will steal as they were crooks before the Blitz.

However the spirit of the majority of the people held firm when, if the same people today (and I include myself) were in the same situation I'm not sure they/I could cope.

Exactly. There was a reason they had government enforced rationing back then to stop the greedy bar stewards. They also had spivs who were hated by the decent folk.

There is a tendency to look through rose tinted glasses at that era and mostly it was true people did pull together but it was backed by rationing. There was also plenty of theft it just wasn't reported in the press as bad for morale.

This is why the supermarkets need to stop 3 items per customer. It’s a joke and they’re taking the piss.

There is a difference.
The bombs and need for metals and supplies along with bomb raids but at least you got a loud warning most of the time.
This is not an optional stay in doors.
This is different as its invisible.
I sort of get the fear factor and hoarding as two weeks indoors will need a lot of food and supplies.
Say 2 or 3 kids.
Imagine that, 2 weeks,14 days with no going out at all.
People will be arrested if found out when shouldn't be.
This has a long way to go I think.
It will get worse before it gets better I fear.
I dont want to judge tbh as luckily I havent had to do it.
My brother on law is 6 days in and I'm dropping milk on his doorstep tommorrow.
All I can do I'm afraid but little is somewhat the best I want to do.

Ah yes, the 3 items only...........it's quite amusing really:

Now, every week Me & Him indoors buy a pack of 200 cigarettes from our local Tesco (one between us, not one each) however, yesterday we were informed that we could only have 3 packs.......

so now, despite being in the age group being told not to go out unless essential, we will have to go there 4 times a week to achieve what we have previously been buying for the last 10 years.

(and please spare me the 'give it up's' etc. it is what it is and it's our choice)

Yes because I always only stock one meal at a time in the house.

If people could be trusted to act like rational human beings it wouldn’t be required. But they can’t and here we are.

Yeah fine, but I’d stay in if I were you. The state of your lungs you’re basically screwed if you catch this. Also ‘have to’ is not the right term.

Thank you for the sympathy and offer to held - sadly I'm in South Somerset.... no good for fags but brilliant for farm shops, raw milk and cider
