Interesting article from Peter Hitchens [Link]

The mortality stats percentages are not reliable as there are so many people who had the virus and never got treated and therefore counted. The majority of those dying had underlying health conditions which is the same fact as occurs with flu and flu related deaths.

We are allowing an awful lot of our freedoms to be signed away for something that, IMO, is (mortality wise) not a lot worse than flu and we have never in the recent past ever acted like this because of flu.

Seriously though, since the old man passed away 3yrs ago we've taken control of everything. We paid the mortgage off, deal with all her finances (direct debits/bills/any admin etc etc) feed her, clothe her, look after the home and take her to the doctors/hospital or anywhere else that she wants/needs to go.
She has (mild but increasing) alhzeimer's and the hardest thing tbh has been telling her to stay indoors for the past few weeks as her daily routine involves popping down to her local Tesco, buying a few bits (that she doesn't need! bless her) and having a natter with a few friends she has there.
Sunday is the day that we give her her tablets for the week along with her £70 'pocket money' in cash, cash because she lost the ability to use her debit card a couple of years ago and the grief involved with re-setting passwords etc with the bank was no longer worth it. It was '3 strikes and out' regarding her card.........although she still denies ever having a problem and will happily sit there reciting her password to prove the point. It's just a shame that the password she takes pleasure in reciting happens to be her phone number. Bless her.
Anyway, since the Covid thing and stopping her cash on a Sunday, all we get now is ''You're taking my money away, you're robbing me, i'm a prisoner'' etc etc but if we give her the cash she absolutely will go out. Tough love i guess.

Oh well, roll on 2pm

Feel for you Tux, I really do.

I lost my Mum and 2 Aunts in the past 3 years who had dementia, as well as a brother two years ago with "underlying health problems". Talking with the family recently and we're all agreed that we're glad they're not here to go through this isolation stuff today as they wouldn't have been able to understand it. As your Mum-in-Law seems to think, somehow you're punishing them.

Thought many times how much worse it would be if they were in homes that we couldn't visit.

Hope it works out alright for you and for anyone in a similar situation.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

I have not perused the link, however I had heard on the radio that in normal times the number of deaths in the UK from flu and related illnesses over a same period is around 8,000 and our experts have asserted that the Covid-19 death toll could rise to 20,000 as a minimum and could greatly exceed this number if people do not heed the advice.

Well good luck and nice post, easy to read. Didn’t start with a new sentence on each line. It made me smile.

Do be careful albeit I am starting to question the authoritarian dictation. In the meantime we need to air on the side of caution.

Just out of interest, does anyone on here yet either have it or have a loved one who has it?

This is from his article:

' 'Avoidable deaths are tragic, but each year there are already many deaths, especially among the old, from complications of flu leading to pneumonia.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) tells me that the number of flu cases and deaths due to flu-related complications in England alone averages 17,000 a year. This varies greatly each winter, ranging from 1,692 deaths last season (2018/19) to 28,330 deaths in 2014/15.

The DHSC notes that many of those who die from these diseases have underlying health conditions, as do almost all the victims of coronavirus so far, here and elsewhere. As the experienced and knowledgeable doctor who writes under the pseudonym ‘MD’ in the Left-wing magazine Private Eye wrote at the start of the panic: ‘In the winter of 2017-18, more than 50,000 excess deaths occurred in England and Wales, largely unnoticed.’ '

Thanks bud, but along with many others you seem to have had it far worse than we ever will.

Tim Shipman’s quotes from Cummings today in The Times are very, very troubling.

‘herd immunity, protect the economy and if that means some pensioners die, too bad.’

Agreed.
Martial Law to keep the people in their homes where they can't protest rather than on the streets where they can.
The implementation of Universal Basic Income to barely keep said people afloat as many no longer have the means to earn.

I'd love to be surprised that people are already begging for this but i'm not.
Not in the slightest.

It died on September 17th 2019.
What they want to protect are their arses for causing an economic catastrophe that originally blew-up in 2008/09 and then allowing the same problems (debt) to escalate ever since.
A force majeure fits the bill perfectly.
A faceless scapegoat.
And 'just in time'...........to coin a phrase.
