Jeez. Where do you start on this! Maybe he's looking to defect to the Westboro Baptist Church. You've got to laugh...or despair!

Pictures from around the world don't lie, but this article from a retired Professor of Pathology and NHS Consultant from the Spectator makes for interesting reading. I've copied a couple of paragraphs from towards the end of the article to give a taste of what it's about.

"The moral debate is not lives vs money. It is lives vs lives. It will take months, perhaps years, if ever, before we can assess the wider implications of what we are doing. The damage to children’s education, the excess suicides, the increase in mental health problems, the taking away of resources from other health problems that we were dealing with effectively. Those who need medical help now but won’t seek it, or might not be offered it. And what about the effects on food production and global commerce, that will have unquantifiable consequences for people of all ages, perhaps especially in developing economies?

Governments everywhere say they are responding to the science. The policies in the UK are not the government’s fault. They are trying to act responsibly based on the scientific advice given. But governments must remember that rushed science is almost always bad science. We have decided on policies of extraordinary magnitude without concrete evidence of excess harm already occurring, and without proper scrutiny of the science used to justify them."

Interesting read. Thank for posting.

Most likely brits wanting to come home. They should be, but no doubt won’t be tested. I wouldn’t want to be that family stranded in India.

China cases rising again from the trough on the graph as Chinese nationals fly home from Britain and other places without being tested at departure.

Won't be tested at Gatwick. Why did they travel to India (Goa?) during this crisis? Totally irresponsible

We all hope that the 'Sombrero' is squashed sooner rather than later.

If however this doesn’t happen, or perhaps it is not as squashed as the Government would like, the Government will face an unenviable choice.

They will have to either continue with the present lockdown, or even introduce further measures, which would risk devastating the economy even further, not forgetting the risk to employment affecting millions and the ramifications affecting the well-being of those who find themselves surplus to requirements in their workplace.

The alternative would be to ease the lockdown, which could mean further waves of new cases and further pressure on the NHS.

If my understanding is correct, China Airways fly between Gatwick and Taipei.

I am led to believe that as of 1 April, the North terminal will be closed and all flights will operate to/from the South terminal. In general terms, gargantuan problems for the airline industry and associated businesses.

Correct on all points Willo. Gatwick is like a ghost town now, very eerie feeling.
I suspect (I don't know) that Gatwck may completely close in the not too distant future. Some airlines/companies may never recover

The first paragraph is exactly what Stirling is saying and I agree with, but not yet. The lack of food production workers (veg pickers) following bans of pickers flying in from Eastern Europe has come to the top of the news articles now I assume the supply of fresh veg is running down.

The second paragraph is easy for him to say because he doesn’t have the responsibility on his shoulders and the stats of cases doubling and how quickly they double. You can discuss the level of isolation but right now you’re pretty much looking at isolation or no isolation and the virus spreading everywhere. I expect while cases are rising he can claim all he likes without the responsibility while the government picks its moment to have things return to normal.

It is the model of plausibility that the aviation industry will simply never recover and of course there is a knock-on effect on jobs not only in this country but globally.

It goes without saying that for aircrafts to fly, airports need to be opened and even if the UK is in a position to ease the lockdown, if other countries are still imposing strict restrictions our aircrafts will be going nowhere or perhaps only to a limited amount of destinations.

One suspects that there will be a 'Drip feed' of countries easing restrictions and opening their airports but this could be over a lengthy timescale.

Being bored at home and trawling the internet to pass the time, I came across this article about Coronavirus in Cornwall.(note it was written before the lockdown)
Now I can understand them not wanting it spread and not wanting their NHS to be stretched but some of the comments are staggering.
It seems in some "locals" eyes if you were not born and bred in Cornwall you don't belong and the only troublemakers are those from elsewhere.
Somewhat dispels WE view that everyone is welcome and such a nice place to live.
Bets being taken on which comments were made by WE

I don’t blame them tbh and they are stating common sense that is actually proven science. It isn’t necessary for the non locals to be there. If I had a 2nd home down there I’d only go if I was taking a big supply of food and isolating with lots of space around me. But vehicles run out of fuel and other things mean human contact can happen so you’re not minimising contact at all.

You could hear this kind of thing at countless mosques including one down the road from you. Some Muslim sects are quite tolerant. Most aren't - none accept homosexuality. Homosexuals are stoned in some muslim countries. And I mean in the biblical sense - not in the rasta sense.
