That wasn't me, as a "boomer" trying to justify anything! It was a comment on the current political thinking!

The working poor and those 'just about managing' are going to have and are already having their lives wrecked....but a reduced bowls season eh.

That was simply me trying to see a sliver of personal optimism which in no way seeks to trivialise the impact on others. I fully understand the way some lives may be devastated and will require ongoing support for some time ahead. I know that people like me are comparatively lucky. Mind you at my age I am well into the vulnerable group.

You say you run a business....Well, I genuinely hope it's ok.

Used to run a business, but am now several years retired. I do though have 3 rental properties which provide a chunk of my retirement income. One tenant has done a runner owing substantial arrears. As he remains the legal tenant I have no right to even enter the property without a Court order and they are now not available. So no rent, no knowledge of it's condition which I anticipate as poor, no possibility of renovation and no opportunity of reletting in the foreseeable future. Another became vacant just before the lockdown but cannot now be relet as agents are barred from viewings and new contracts. The third has just been relet, after 2 weeks of work by me to get it up to standard again. Landlords are being given a mortgage holiday to help when tenants cannot pay their rent but I don't have a mortgage.

If you pay one of the local scrotes to bust in and squat then pay him a drink to leave then you can enter under the premise of re securing the property. Unfortunatly no scrotes live in your manor do they ? And your banned from going out. Snookered I reckon.

Presumably when this is all over, you will want British tourists to rent your properties, not wanted at the moment are they!
I am a bit gobsmacked having read all the tripe you have written on here over the years, that you are, in fact, only looking after yourself. Wonder what your view on certain posters on here, if they commented in a similar way, would have been!

It’s the typical ‘do as I say, not as I do’ tripe you expect from people who hide down in Devon and Cornwall while lecturing the rest of us. He isn’t the first.

Not the first but one of the worst. Love everyone, let everyone live where they want.... except in my neck of the woods when it suits.
Still at least one of his properties is now rented.
We are still getting poor refugees crossing the Channel every day,
Wissie any idea who may have spare property for them? Or are you the Lily Allen of Truro?

A landlord....now there are of course good landlords and bad landlords....Still, all those 'progressives' kissing his behind and he's a three property owning landlord.

Apropos 'Draconian measures',the message is that the expected peak is about 2 or 3 weeks away and of course this could change.

If for example the peak is 2 or 3 weeks away, followed of course by a 'Plateau' the Government and advisors will wish to review the situation post-peak before easing SOME of the restrictions.It could be another 5 or 6 weeks,perhaps much longer,before some modicum of normality returns.God Forbid!

As a person who works in a factory,I cant help feeling that manufacturing companies have been given a free ride during this partial lockdown.
We are allowed to go to work, but no checks are done to see if we need to be there, or to check that the 2 metre rule is even possible within the factory.

I wasn't "lecturing" anyone. I was just explaining a comment that was misrepresented by someone who makes a habit of deliberate misrepresentation.

I don't dislike my tenants at all. The only tenant I currently have is a lovely lady. In the past some have been great, some less so. Just as as everywhere.

I have never evicted anyone. I once went to Court to try to, after 7 months of unpaid rent, but unfortunately the tenant died (in my property). I was contacted by a neighbour and then helped deal with his death, assisting the council etc. He died intestate. That cost me about £5,000 as I had to also arrange for the property to be cleared. However, as he appeared to have no family I went to his funeral.

The frigging agents still tried to claim all their uncollected "service" charges though.
