I don't think statistics on 'prevented' deaths can be viewed as that reliable due to several factors.

Generally I think the situation we are in has a lot to do with over confident people relying on what they view as hard facts.

Like everything else, some things are presented as 'facts' when really they are versions of reality.

Like science papers, historical reviews show that most of them end up being flawed in many respects.

Cryrst was criticised on here for giving a view because it differed with presented 'facts' with the implication that he was ignorant and lazy. Well, a model is only as good as the assumptions that are coded into it and what are often pushed as 'facts' often turn out to be inaccurate over time.

It is an INBOUND flight.

All passengers on board yesterday were Romanian nationals or British Nationals of Romanian extraction

As promised to Willo, today’s Cluj had 80 passengers on board, all appeared to be Romanian nationals. Whether already resident here I cannot say

So you don't need one to come over here in order to fly back?

WTF are you talking about, are you suggesting they are flying over empty just to take people back? See my previous reply.

That’s quite some extrapolation. You’re the one saying it’s underfunded and that other countries are doing better at the moment. All I’m asking is how much more money you would see spent on it?

Looking at the Wikipedia link, UK expenditure per head went up 9% between 2013 and 2016.

US expenditure by 15%

I suspect the gap widened in the years thereafter but haven't time to prove that right now

You can draw your own conclusion

Well, I have had exactly that experience when flying to Romania.

Just digesting your above response, how was the flight empty if you were on it? Is aircrew another string to your bow?

I did not call anyone ignorant.

If someone wishes to debate the facts I am up for that. If someone makes an assertion - implying it is fact - without any support or reason put forward to support the assertion then I view that with suspicion.

I was on it when flying to Bucharest. It flew to Gatwick empty to pick us up. It was also a very old Ilyushin. Actually rather scary. But isn't it common for planes to be relatively empty on one leg of their flight? As far as I know most return to their home base each night when on short haul.

How reliable are details on Wikipedia though?

If I was very sceptical over the whole lockdown, government intervention and death prevention then I think I’d be turned round by Trump’s complete u-turn.

This isn’t a criticism but I expect you might say that the media make this call or an upcoming election (competent opposition that happens to be left wing).

Apart from a few exceptions in SE Asia, Sweden and some loony leaders in Eastern Europe with their theories on how you contract the virus or keep it at bay by going to ice hockey, it looks as though everyone is having a lockdown which we hope is temporary.
