He has been forced to give some sort of statement as it's fairly obvious that whatever else is going on in the world the BBC won't let this one go after all it's much more important than an airliner crashing in pakistan and killing loads of people.

Dominic Cummings may be on the taxpayers payroll but nowhere near the extent that the rottweilers at the BBC are

So some laws/rules can be broken but others can't. It's ok to travel 260 miles to stay somewhere where you could infect other people? Do you really believe they didn't interact with anyone else either on the journey

I used to live in Newcastle Upon Tyne which is 30 or so miles north of Durham and I used to drive quite frequently down to London or Surrey and never stopped on the way

Unsurprising you lot clambering to defend him on here. Would love to see the reaction if Diane Abbott had done the same thing.

The same thing for an autistic kid would probably have got a lot more sympathy tbh. Although with two left shoes she would still be negotiating the front garden of ex council house that she paid 90k for and is now worth a million!

Rather a selective quote.

I think you have misinterpreted what I am saying, I am not saying he shouldn't be taxpayer funded, as political advisers are. My point is this undermines Johnson, if there was a story to tell it should have been told yesterday by Johnson.

So little was given in terms of detail yesterday this has dragged on for another day.

Absolutely disgusting Dianne Abbot hasn't crashed the property market in order to maintain the value she paid for her property.

I am seething.

I actually defended Diane Abbott over sending her children to private school because there nothing to be gained by sending your children to a bad state school. You either change the education system or make your own choice.

I agree with a lot of this - and I assume we will hear this sort of PR line later today in a big climb down

But his initial reaction fails it for me

If it was a genuine moment of desperation we would have heard that story first, not second

Also surely he is not that naive to expect it to come out - he’s not - which means he just went ‘f*** it’

Actions have consequences when you’re in the public eye.

He'll focus on his child's disability, which in fairness may have been a genuine consideration at the time, to see him through this. It's a pretty impenetrable defense if you're willing to go there, and it will start to look bad if the media keep on at him.

And to be honest for all the rights or wrongs of his personal approach our focus should be on positive news and steps to move forward at this difficult time. Increased PPE, developments with tests, vaccines, approaches for care homes, restarting sports, getting the ball rolling on life again. There's still a need for that ongoing discussion; this stuff is more of a political soap opera.

Frankly, if Diane Abbott was a special adviser to any government, we’d have a lot more to worry about than if she had broken the lockdown rules.

He’s going to do it because he’s confident he’ll still be in the crease come the end of it and get a round of applause from the majority of people who voted Conservative. Many simply don’t care anyway. In 4 years time it’ll be completely forgotten. Boris’s opposition can say what they like about being undermined. His support won’t care and their MP’s owe them.

To begin with I thought he’d have to go. But if there’s mitigating circumstances then you have to hear them, and we can’t wait for inquiries. The problem is DC wouldn’t communicate. He let the sanctimonious screeching and the press make their errors before he eventually decides to reveal he factors that even more people will realise the baying mob need to get back in their box, or their lockdown gardens on free moet (Sorry, money and beer and ice cream) they want to continue for the maximum length of time possible, no matter how many more deaths and prolonged hardship for a decade or 3 it causes than Covid. These tw@ts get to irritate you so much to the point they become even more ridiculous and easy to ignore. One of the few positives of lockdown, and this extension. A prolonged extension I do blame on Boris, Cummings and the govt, apart from Sunak. Bring the furlough end dates forward and see the change in public lockdown mood.
