Transparent codswallop as ever. The media created the fuss and now they claim everyone is outraged. Baloney.

The news networks will give this a real go since Cummings is enemy No1 and for that reason I would support Cummings if he had strangled his own mother.
I want to see the media networks crawling in the dirt.

The media "created" nothing. This was started by Cummings behaving as though he could interpret the rules to suit himself. The media merely did what they are expected to do and shine a light into the dark corners and expose what's there. Having done so the story expanded enormously when Johnson decided to try to defend the indefensible.

I am as critical as the next person of the tabloid media and their frequent behaviour. Not in this case. All the media seem united in trying to do their job and this attempt by the apologists on here to try to shift the blame onto them is, quite frankly spoken, rather pathetic.

Cummings might have previously been seen by everyone as a shining example of selfless merit and held up as big a hero as "Captain Tom". It wouldn't matter. He made a big mistake and needs to be sacked for it, as an example. He might have been treated more kindly as such a man would doubtless have resigned instantly with fulsome apologies being offered. That he tries to excuse himself just pours salt into his self inflicted wounds

Not in this case.

I am only motivated on the impact this is likely to have on our capacity to deal effectively with the next stages of this crisis.

Good. We’re now at a point where the guidelines or rules are a waste of everyone’s time and the economy. I made a point of watching the start of all the news programmes and if, big if, the very low number of cases and falling all the time was mentioned later on in the news, they managed to ask a doctor in an empty ward who went on about a 2nd peak on its way. Give it a rest.

If you are happy about the government losing the support of the people and their willingness to accept and comply with what is being asked of them, then I am not.

We all need to be together on this. Or at least all the sensible people do. There are always a few outliers. As we can see in these pages.

Why would cummins going up north have an impact on how this is dealt with going forwards. You have convinced yourself he is guilty before a trial. Plod will find he acted within the law of covid.
Now please dont come back with the old principle line. He did nothing wrong end of.

That is obviously true but a completely separate issue. Some of the "rules" might not make a lot of sense. I could quote a few myself that directly impact me. The point is that agree, or disagree, we have all (or at least most of us) been willing to follow them.

That consensus is in the process of being broken.

I dont think he will.
This happened a while ago so why wait until now. One word BREXIT. End of june its done and Cummins is a big player in it. The media have played into HMG hands. The bbc have literally stabbed themselves and might well have to wait for any help on the license fee. Ironically it was a 'great' deal at the time. Now they have changed the beads on the abacus the figures dont add up. Tough luck auntie.

I can't see it myself either, unless something else emerges. He's in the clear.

How am I going to think that in the next few days then?

If Johnson stubbornly refuses to act then I suspect there will be a growing restlessness in the Tory Party, matched by a decline in the public support for the government and the PM. That at a time when it is essential we don't waver in our efforts to beat the virus and stay united.

Losing focus and having to deal with a stupidity like this when it can so easily be avoided is a catastrophe.

50% is always relevant.

So is if you get there through the manipulation of the voters by Russian based internet farms posting fake information.

There is no manipulation involved here. Just the facts being presented. Cummings did it. Johnson hasn't sacked him. Open, shut and reported.

Ah the old Ruskin influences, evidence please, we all know how you insist on cast iron evidence from other posters ( well those you don’t agree with) desperation setting in?

Because all the contentions, including yours here, are unproven.

You are assigning motivations without evidence. People make alterations to online documents all the time. The people who do it most often are the hypocrites in the press and they only publish for profit.

This was Cumming's own blog, not designed for profit and read by very few.

Cummings had written about pandemics and coronavirus years ago, which is true.....How many of his critics did?

Cummings made no such other claims.

Hence, this is, as I state much ado about nothing.

Hold on... its been spotted by using the appropriate software that content was added to a past DC blog in 2019, inserting a paragraph on SARS/caronavirus outbreaks, on 14 April. This prediction, specifically on a caronavirus like outbreak was mentioned by DC yesterday.

So it's been changed and then used by Cummings to lend himself credibility. Lest we forget 14 April also happened to be the day he returned to work.

It's a small untruth and one that can only be used to benefit the man himself. Honestly think what you wish as its legitimately a very small detail but it does nothing to demonstrate a reliable narrator.

Disagree. The only people pushing this are the media and most people will be bored of it by Wednesday or Thursday.

Your cynicism is entirely misplaced.

Deal with the arguments rather than simply attack who is making them. If you think my analysis is wrong then explain why. Although many have tried to put forward a defence for this lack of action by Johnson none has yet had even a smidgeon of reality.

Apologists for Cummings and Johnson's lack of action are floundering in a mire of blame-shifting onto the media etc etc. It won't stand up. I can see it and the vast majority of ordinary people can see it.

The responsibility for this mess lies solely in no 10 Downing St. Not Fleet St or Portland Place.
