It's a shame that Teddy didn't comment on his link as everyone really out to read it as it gives an insight into the topic that has taken up all of the headlines this week from a journalist who is less than enamoured at the poor behaviour of his colleagues

He’s not resigning, let’s move on and deal with saving peoples lives.

Let's hope that whoever takes the Coronavirus press briefing this afternoon adopts the same attitude.

hopefully it will be Robert Jenrick who has already told someone to "move on" when being interviewed on TV this morning

Good article, whatever side your on in the Cummings debate this journalist hits the nail on the head.

Our press simply need to do better I gave up watching press conferences years ago because journo after jouno ask the same question and get the same response. They seem incapable of adapting to the stonewalling and eliciting a better response.

I didn't watch the rose garden interview did any journo ask how is your wife and kid now? Did they show any sympathy to a parent rushing his kid to hospital? Maybe if they had they might have got more out of him than he intended.

Different area but Michael Parkinson was the master of getting celebrities to feel comfortable and then to open up. Maybe they might want to see if they can adapt that technique.

As my old school reports all said "must try harder".

No the journalist was clearly a graduate at the school of peston responding to the replies with you usual "so what you saying is" then say the answer they hoped to hear then got told no then kept doing this over and over and over again.

I can’t remember any journalist showing any compassion at all towards any of the family. Absolutely appalling

Funny how leaks from sources are fine when it suits your own agenda. Dominic Grieve! You mean the Tory rebel who was determined to stop the majority having what they voted for, how he must hate BJ and DC

No Dominic Grieve who as Chairman of the Intelligence Committee has much more information on this than either of us. Which he clearly thought ought to be known about before people voted.

That Dominic Grieve. The previous MP with integrity.

The public perception is largely at the mercy of the media. The media want to get rid of Cummings. What he did or didn't do is of little consequence unless the media want to make it so.

Is this too difficult for you? Or are you being deliberately obtuse as usual?

The only people being obtuse here are those attempting to defend Cummings/Johnson.

If what they have done didn't exist then there wouldn't be anything for the media to report.

The responsibility lies solely at the door of No 10.

It's simple hypocrisy to try to claim anything else.

So if he was fined £60, that would close the issue for you?

If he wasn't Johnson's closest adviser and part of the group setting the rules but simply a private citizen, then yes.

He isn't. So no. He must be sacked from his position. And fined £60.

The media "created" nothing. This was started by Cummings behaving as though he could interpret the rules to suit himself. The media merely did what they are expected to do and shine a light into the dark corners and expose what's there. Having done so the story expanded enormously when Johnson decided to try to defend the indefensible.

I am as critical as the next person of the tabloid media and their frequent behaviour. Not in this case. All the media seem united in trying to do their job and this attempt by the apologists on here to try to shift the blame onto them is, quite frankly spoken, rather pathetic.

Cummings might have previously been seen by everyone as a shining example of selfless merit and held up as big a hero as "Captain Tom". It wouldn't matter. He made a big mistake and needs to be sacked for it, as an example. He might have been treated more kindly as such a man would doubtless have resigned instantly with fulsome apologies being offered. That he tries to excuse himself just pours salt into his self inflicted wounds

You NEVER apologise to the leftwaffe attack mob. NEVER. Particularly if you have not done anything wrong.

They will not stop until you are destroyed. Nothing less than your scalp and total humiliation will do. Show any kind of weakness, and you are over. This is how your scummy mates in the press work, in coordination with the unhinged baying social media mob.

See, for but one example, this:

Agreed.

Those who are vulnerable very much know the situation and I agree that more caution is appropriate for them.

But for the rest of us....
