As one of the main proponents of such behaviour, as long as you own that fact and adhere to it yourself going forward, then yes you are indeed right in what you say.

I see the majority of people as now ticking that box really. The vaccines and natural infection should have done their job in at least limiting the impact of variants going forward. This is the most likely in my view.

If that is indeed the case then that's good news, and I see no need to anything other than tinkering around the edges type restrictions.

If on the other hand the situation somehow becomes much worse, then that is of course horrendous, but it partially invalidates all steps brought in anyway as it will mean that they haven't made a significant difference to the eventual outcome. So in that situation too, restrictions would seem to be somewhat futile from a more negative angle.

I'm going Dutch.

Haven't we had enough enough of this?

If only we were actually capable of rioting.

At least it would show we cared.

But...But you weren't posing in this section ever again.

I am always right bud.

I have retaliated to the barrage of insinuations I get from people like you, for sure, and I am a willing participant in friendly or unfriendly discussion.
As I don't want people carded or banned, I'm suggesting friendly interaction.

For you, I'd add, not playing to the crowd or acting like the school sneak, and you will be fine.

Possibly. But the government couldn’t do nothing in the belief that this situation might develop and actually be the case. (This variant looks like it might’ve jumped ahead in the natural evolution stages starting in an AIDS patient on several drugs.

It’s all just what if’s at the moment but I bet things will be extended by …. Just a few more weeks, months, maybe till July, maybe the summer solstice.

No Severe COVID Cases Among Vaccinated Patients Infected With Omicron, Top Israeli Expert Says - [Link]

Anecdotal to the point where it might not be incredibly meaningful, but its good to keep track of a developing situation.

I don't believe there is any need to worry. It would be tested but won't need huge trials again as the modifications needed would be tweaks, and not comprehensive changes.

I have read it could be ready in 100 days time. Which seems a long time to me, so if it does get a hold, I guess we will be under restrictions again.

The bigger danger is, I think, the growing resistance to any kind of restrictions, along with the anti-vax movement gaining additional ammunition from a "rushed" roll out. The number of people I see now refusing to wear masks in crowded places, observe social distancing and basic hygiene procedures, has increased markedly recently.

Some are just being bloody minded or selfish, whilst others just fed up with it all. Dangerous, though, whatever the reasons.

Yes, I can see how people could get fed up with it, it will be interesting to see if the government are wearing face masks at question time on Wednesday!

Did he also mention that so far they have seen it almost exclusively in young people? Who of course rarely get the severe illness anyway.

Although they ,and surrounding countries have been ostracised a little so what's the benefit of not spinning it. I'm sure there is much truth in what they say but genetics may play a part with a new strain. Time will tell on how dangerous the actual bug is so giving it a few weeks might be sensible.

I specifically said that I'd be posting in this thread. Commenting on important health matters is something that impacts us all. Not everything is the Hrolf show. I'm the complete opposite of a 'school sneak' actually with regard to others' conduct. Now back on topic please.

Yes it does seem to be the nature of viruses that they can evolve and adapt within the immune compromised. Covid has so many opportunities to do so and it will be interesting (perhaps not the right word) to see how it eventually pans out. In South Africa vaccination is minimal. We've at least got decent B and T cell immunity via relatively high ongoing case numbers of Delta and also the vaccinate and booster efforts. I wonder if this will mean that the new variant is limited in how much damage it will cause here as result of this.

As you say, many unknowns and I understand why it might take a few weeks before he get of idea of how this is panning out and to be sensible until that time. Many scenarios aren't doom and gloom, but even if its horrendous, it then follows that everything we do is minimally effective, which in its own way validates carrying on in a relatively 'normal' way. Just my take though.

I agree that so much in unknown and there may not be a big enough sample group to known how it impacts different age groups compared to previous variants. We'll no doubt know more soon, and hopefully what we learn will lean towards the positive.
