I hear what you say about 100 year pandemics but Government departments meet every year to discuss and review plans in the event of various catastrophes.

Whilst one cannot plan for a vaccine in advance one could certainly ensure that the front line NHS staff had sufficient protective clothing so that every time they tried to cure a patient they weren't put at risk themselves

Indeed

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

This pandemic was massively predictable. We had two warnings. I read the science, warned my company and wrote a response after the first SARS. Denuding the NHS to such an extent in recent years was hugely reckless

Sainsbury's are only allowing ONE adult per household to shop to reduce queues waiting to enter the stores and to keep customers a safe distance apart.

Sainsbury's from Sunday will reduce some limits on the number of items customers can purchase but limits will still apply on the most popular items including UHT milk, pasta and tinned tomatoes.Limits have been removed immediately on Easter eggs - there were boxes and boxes stacked up in my local store!

Seeing it was so predictable which countries were prepared for it?

I just came back from M&S whilst at the till a member of staff spotted a couple queuing and asked them to separate as only one is required. She also said that from this weekend it will be 1 adult only.

I think this is sensible I am still seeing families going shopping it only needs 1. The rest can stay in the car if they HAVE to come.

I suspect that all supermarkets will adopt a similar policy to Sainsburys.

A rather small tea room in my 'Neck of the woods' is open for the purchase of food items and they only allow 1 person per household.

Unfortunately whilst it's a good idea it isn't working. I went to Sainsbury this morning at 8:00am with all the other oldies and there were a few couples there.

The security guard told them no couples and one fellow went and sat in his car whilst the others all claimed not to be a couple despite both getting out of the same car and only having one trolley and the security guard was forced to let them in as he had no power to stop them.

Apparently it isn't against the law to behave like an r sole

My criticism of PHE, the NHS and the politicians is restricted to January / February.

According to the WHO we did not have a contingency plan for a pandemic, that should have been in place already and would cost very little (just to create the plan).

In the early part of the year once it became obvious the virus was coming our way that plan should have been dusted off and updated. At that point we should have started spending real money on equipment and training.

We are now playing catch up and from my perceptive the NHS is not good at implementing change fast let's hope I am wrong.

According to the EU we were invited to join the EU joint effort for the mass purchase of ventilators but didn't.

According to Michael Gove the email inviting us to participate went to the wrong email address which is why it wasn't actioned.

You couldn't make it up

One supposes the security guard could have insisted that the two people standing next to a single trolley would indicate they are a 'Couple' and insisted they could not both enter the store.I sense there could well be some acrimony in some parts of the country with tempers raised.

Apropos Sainsburys, my dear wife and I visited our local branch the other afternoon. There was NO queue at the entrance, the store was relatively quiet and the shelves were well stocked. When we previously visited the store in the late morning there was a queue to enter.

M&S claim their stores are quieter in the afternoon hopefully this is true the shelves are well stocked.

That is one incident it doesn't excuse the lack of preparation. Other countries have better plans no one has it correct but I think in Europe Germany certainly has the testing issue under control.
