2 Border Force Officers have now died from Coronavirus, I know some posters felt they were in more danger than anyone else but let me quote a Home Office spokesperson and perhaps it will show what BF staff are up against:
it is not necessary for BF staff to where PPE at all times, only when they are dealing with a person who is showing symptoms” by which time they have handled documents and the person is standing within a foot or two of them.

That is bloody ridiculous advice that even a 10 year old could discredit

Exactly I could not believe they made this statement to the National press. This is what staff have been up against but it is ok they have been issued with hand sanitizer and can wear disposable gloves! Just after the outbreak was obviously more serious than people had realised, a passenger came to a desk with passport held in mouth ( believe me this has always been a relatively common occurrence)

Quite dispiriting that Germany have urged people to stay at home as the infection rate has risen again. They had got it down as low as 0.7 in mid April but on Monday it rose to 0.96. Still just under 1, but only just.

Scientists believe the basic reproduction rate of Covid-19, R0, to lie somewhere between 2.4 and 3.3.

Wieler from the RKI disease control agency said, “Let us continue to stay at home as much as possible, keep observing the restrictions and keep a distance of 1.5 metres from one another.”

1.5 metres and 2 in Germany?

I heard that on the radio yesterday - i.e. the rate of spread in Germany gone up after easing lock down movement restrictions. Not sure I understand why this isn't a big issue.

That really just takes the p!55 and for the pittance they are paid even compared to the rest of the Civil Service.

Amazing levels of ignorance and dismissal of a section of the workforce.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Very true. If it gets up to 1.5 they will lockdown again I'm sure. That will happen here if we get back too quickly. Testing will not stop the spread as you might be clear today but infected tommorrow.

I think the U.K. R0 rate is down to R1, but the government want it a lot lower.

Last I heard Prof Chris Whitty said that it was about 0.7

That's something that I've often wondered about as it has never been mentioned in any of the briefings

Some guy on the wireless this morning said it in not so many words. It can be negative even if you have just got it or if you are near the end. Still makes you contagious though. Test for antibodies will be the more urgent one.

That’s as low as Germany got to. Not all German states made cloth mask wearing compulsory in shops etc, including Berlin.

We really should and need to make cloth masks compulsory in all indoor public places. The problem will then be making sure people keep them on or the face covered after entering and the expected excuses, but nearly everybody doing it is better than giving people the choice. Trouble is I think there’s evidence asking rather than ordering gets a better response. Personally, personal freedom to not wear a mask isn’t a consideration while trying to reduce the spread of this virus but asking being better than ordering makes me wonder.

Asking doesnt cut it, I remember that request about social distancing about 6 weeks ago and snowdonia was never as busy. Instruction is sometimes needed in place of information.
