The first human trial to evaluate a candidate vaccine against the new coronavirus has begun in Seattle.

The schools issue is a mixed one....it depends upon the strategy you're using....and at some stage they are going to do it anyway.

I've pulled my children out last week because I mainly work from home and grand-parents aren't an option.

Keeping schools open does of course use staff and their families as front line troops as it were....I'm sure when this is over there's going to be some arguing over that.

That seems like the sensible approach. Schools are only still open so essential workers can get to work.

That's not limited to emergency service workers, we still need to make sure utilities can still be maintained and food stores are still open.

Basically, keep it a day care centre for vital people that can't afford day care.

Would recommend this as a very good time to start repairing potholes and fixing the railways though?

When that 'close hammer' comes down, a skeletal service staffed by those who are immune seems ideal....how practical it would be I don't know.

I should imagine a lot of people are on edge.

Your figures may be a day ahead of what I’ve been following. Basically Sunday’s figures reported on the previous 24hrs and China recorded 5 new cases (Total up to 80,849) and yesterday they reported 21 new cases (Totalling 80,881 cases)...but how you get 80,849 plus 21 to equal 80,881 I have no idea?!

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Funny how no one seems to give a feck about Extinction Rebellion anymore.

Now people are hoping climate change means it warms up significantly in April and we can stretch our legs again.

This toilet roll thing is also weird....almost as if people were previously permanently on one or two toilet rolls. God forbid we get a new strain of global diarrhea.. ....Andrex would have to go into public ownership.

Extinction Rebellion and Greta's followers have very quickly got everything that they wanted. No air travel, no car travel and no industrial output damaging the atmosphere.

I wonder if their hatred of evil capitalism will be so strong once they find out that evil capitalism isn't there to help them when they need help in hand-outs, services, support services and maybe the odd drink and foreign holiday. Utopia isn't always as good as it looks.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Cogent observations.

The food stores are still open but it would be nice if they actually had some food in them to buy
