There's a right way to change the style of the civil service, and a wrong way. If it's the will of the people, all the people and not just those called Cummings or Badger, then let it be so. Done via Parliament.

The civil service will have people supporting both remain and leave, although being closer to the realities of actual decision making I suspect there are more there who recognise the value of the EU than in the population as a whole.

Of course, a PM needs advisers. They can be drawn from the civil service and relied upon to give impartial advice. The political decisions need to be made by the politicians we elect and not influenced, in any way at all, by those with particular viewpoints who have inveigled their way into the heart of government.

Sounds good in theory but in practice it wouldn't work for the same reasons socialism wont work. Humans are not an impartial species we naturally push or reach for agendas that suit us no human being will ever be impartial.

But the reporters are exempt from the rules to because it supports the witch hunt.

Have I said that? The rules should apply to everyone, mp's, journalists, advisors, royalty, everyone. If not then what is the point of having them? (I'll stress that I didn't agree with them in the first place)

Senior Civil Servants, in my experience, are incompetent. They write policy for departments in which they have no previous experience. To say they are not politically driven is nonsense. A few years ago head of Border Force was the driving force behind Damian Green’s office being raided by the police.
I know Wissie will disagree but 43 years as a civil servant, I think I have a better idea

So your best mate who is qualified wont be allowed to help you then. Rather someone who you dont know because they may be impartial, which incidentally is impossible as we all have an opinion.

The Remain supporting gold plated pension Civil Service who have spent the last 4 years leaking against the elected government err no thanks.

Governments have always had advisors Cummings is no different to his predecessors. I don't know the man but Boris is in charge and he is entitled to have his own advisors if Cummings has done wrong then the establishment that you trust will no doubt bring him to book.

I would be interested to know what you consider to be a gold plated pension. There is the Senior Civil Service and the rank and file. My pension was worked out as for every year worked, I received 1/80th of my final salary. I had to work every weekend every bank holiday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day to make it a loveable amount ( as I am not eligible for old age pension yet).
Before you ask why retire then, the job was affecting my health and at the age of 60, 10.5 hour shifts, including nights were a no-go

Once again, most people will have broken these rules at some point.

It's not realistic.

Do you have any evidence to back up that 'most' people have broken these rules?

Using 'father's instinct' as a defence is ridiculous as many fathers would have a similar instinct but would have followed the rules.

If my father's instinct had told me that my family's safety depended on my breaking the rules I would have done so in an instant.

in fact i have already done so as I have a family member who lives on her own in a flat and she has been staying with me for the past few weeks
