I didn’t think you were capable of huge exaggeration. And actually we need people to dare to leave their front doors more anyway, apart from the vulnerable, and keeping a distance from them when you drop supplies off to them.

And on the science, who has he mixed with apart from in the hospital? There are several properties on the farm. He didn’t do anything there more than speak to them from a distance. His parents are old and I don’t for one minute think he’d compromise them.

The one thing he is guilty of, heaven forbid, is driving to that spot and sitting on the bench on his wife’s birthday. But it isn’t a hanging offence for me. If there’s evidence he kept going back up to Durham then he is a goner. But there isn’t and that leads me to believe he didn’t because people these days can’t wait to get their camera phones out.

You are just making the same kind of excuses that Cummings and his apologists are.

He broke the rules. End of story. That will materially impact the way we now respond to new requests unless he is sacked.

If the scientists believe that people will die as a consequence this is a very big deal.

He didnt break the rules as much as the reporters outside his drum.

Interesting article about how badly or well we have done relative to other countries. I think the key point for me was we don't know yet because of the different counting methodologies.

We need to wait another six months and then compare number of dead against previous years per country to have a better understanding.

The reporters are not responsible for writing the rules.

They are required to follow them, just as we all are.

Having been shown by someone who is part of the group who writes the rules that it's OK to ignore them those reporters are prime evidence of what setting a bad example can do.

Ha ha that is the lamest excuse I've read. Adults all acting like spoilt brats. What an absolute insult to the dead and sick. So if they get sick and their families get sick its Cummins fault is it?
"Its my ball and I'm taking it home". Pathetic.

So if my neigbours robs a bank it's okay to follow his example.

Sorry regardless of what Cummings did or didn't do adults are supposed to exercise personal responsibility otherwise we have anarchy.

The strategy has moved on from ‘stay home (petrified), save lives’ anyway. And as for ‘save the NHS’ to opening up business and society, I’ve seen a few new nurse dancing videos this week in empty wards while cardiac admissions are down 50%, among others. I said at the start this story was leaked at the wrong time and too late when they should’ve done it during strict lockdown and it looks like that’s right in terms of maximum damage and it damaging government messaging.

‘People will die as a consequence’ is a big exaggeration. Everyone knows who’s at risk. If you don’t then what have you been doing for 2 months?

My wife is a nurse in a cardiac ward and she was sent home one day last week as there were no patients for her to look after

Whether he broke the rules or not it's the media lead by the BBC who have blown it up out of all proportion in their attempt to whip up the public and it is they who will bear a huge responsibility if people now start to ignore future requests for isolation.

And on your point about scientists - have you ever come across two scientists that will agree on anything? For every scientist that says it's raining outside there will be a dozen more who will swear blind that the sun is out

The public aren’t angry because of the media, they are angry because of what he did.

Scientists have announced that drinking two glasses of wine can stave off heart disease.

For those that don’t think this has made much damage.
