Why have people gone on holiday in the last couple of weeks, surprised they can't get back as airlines and countries are closing borders. Anyone who is aware of what's happening in the world, could reasonable expect this to happen.
Now they are blaming to government for not helping to get them back, as if the government hasn't got more pressing issues to deal with. These people appear on the news complaining are just selfish bast_rds.

My dear wife and I know of a lovely couple who departed for the Canary Islands last week on a 'Package' with a return date this Thursday.

My wife contacted the lady a couple of days ago and was informed that they were returning on Thursday as planned on what she termed a "Rescue flight".My wife has informed me that Simon Calder, TV travel expert, has announced this morning that there are no 'Rescue Flights'.

We live in a society where everything is always someone else's fault and the Government is a soft target to blame

The Government have NOT closed pubs, clubs etc etc but advised people not to frequent them.

One of the 'Locals' in my vicinity has experienced a significant drop in trade with rooms and meals being cancelled to the extent that some of the regular staff have been stood down from some of their rostered shifts. There are a number of customers who frequent this establishment who are somewhat 'Ripe' in years and older than 'Yours Truly' who is 68 this year.

A fine batting average sir!

You are using this crisis to push your argument for closed borders, literally in the post above mine. So please stop acting offended when I make a political point.

We are on course for a contraction of GDP of over 10%. Those living paycheck to paycheck, which is a lot of people in our post-austerity society, are going to end up with nothing. We need a wholesale roll out of social provisions or there will be riots, and yet we have just appointed a billionaire who worked for Goldman Sachs as our chancellor.

That is not political. It is just common sense.

It's always Lefty idiots who talk about riots because they are like brainless spoilt children. The government are rolling out measures to help those in need but of course, nothing will be good enough for the likes of you.
You just hate people with more than you. Just admit it to yourself.

Anyone who embarks on a political point scoring rampage is to be blunt, a very sad individual. probably a butt hurt lefty who just can't handle they lost Brexit, and got walloped in the General election and that Comrade's Corbyn and Abbott are yesterday's chip wrapper's.

personally I think the Government have played a blinder in what is an unprecedented situation.

Chill the fcuk out.

Political point scoring... or holding the government to account. Whatever you chose to call it...

If you can’t say it’s silly that the government over the last 10 years has cut hospital beds by 12,000 to the point we are now forking out £2.4 million of taxpayers money a day to send to private health companies for 8000 of their beds, when is it a good time to point out the stupidness of that?

Our current system can’t function in times of crisis, you saw it in 2008 and your seeing it again now. It’s all free market economics, survival of the fittest until it’s their bank/air line/manufacturing company in trouble. Then it’s off to the government with their caps out begging for a cash injection.

Cutting beds while the population increases doesn't seem like a sensible strategy but you'd imagine that all that had been factored in.

Nevertheless these weren't the actions of Johnson, but of Hunt and co from within Cameron's run. May....as much as I disliked her....was an even worse PM but to be fair was essentially a pawn policy wise to her advisers....still that was her call....A weak and actually not that stable a woman.

The NHS is a bottomless pit of funding and we will see what Johnson and co do.....however at the moment...it is what it is.....which is still far better than most countries in the world.

Let's just take a look at where the b***ocks really is coming from!

Officers don't need to have arms 2 metres long. Many pass through the biometric booths these days. The danger exists for people who are within 2 metres of another person for more than 15 mins. That would be a rarity and for the small number involved a booth could be closed and the special facilities that exist used. These place the traveller in a room to wait whilst checks are made. Should questions need to be asked that take longer than 15 mins it could be done through a screen or window.

We could introduce temperature check points through which everyone has to pass before passport control with anyone registering a high reading being picked out for special screening by appropriately trained staff wearing protective clothing. I saw this done in Hong Kong during the SARS virus outbreak. It worked smoothly and wasn't at all disruptive.

It's really not rocket science.

Let do that! I appreciate that you obviously know more than I do about the workings of Border Force and what can and cant be done, as I only worked for them for over 30 years but let me pick at your reply:
I refer to Teddy Eagles post of yesterday and indeed yours of this morning....no-one knows fully how this can be transmitted, it is possible for it to be transmitted on documents (ie passports) some places, I believe including Kew Gardens, are considering not accepting cash.
What are these special facilities? If you are talking about the private interview rooms, let me explain in simple terms why this is not practical: This would be classed as detention, to detain someone you have to issue legal documentation, take their fingerprints (mmm! in the present climate) and take their photograph. This is a LEGAL requirement, if not done the Department can (and have) been sued for unlawful detention.
Where are these places with screens and windows? I have never seen them. Officers have been asking for these for years but, thanks to your looney Liberals friends, they have been resisted as they did not want interviewees to feel intimidated, as they do not exist now, you cannot just magic them out of thin air.
We could implement health checks BUT WE ARE NOT and my point was that Border Force Officers are at risk. if this were to be the case, where do you suggest the people be taken? and how?
Finally I wonder what your definition of rocket science is? The reason being I want to let my daughter (who is a Senior Spacecraft Engineer) know that there is a sage living in a Cornish bubble who may well know more about her job than she does.
