So how are you going to deal with the demand problem without increasing the supply?

Supply needs to increase until normal behaviour resumes....and that's what is happening.

Surely normal behaviour must resume shortly as people can't have any space left in their freezers

Went to out local butchers this morning, and it was something like Jones the butcher from Dad's army. All the counter trays were empty, apart from 3 sausages and a couple of bacon rashers.

Mine was the same and I thought I was being crafty by going on Thursday instead of our usual Saturday morning

I did manage to snaffle a large turkey crown though so we are OK for the weekend and more.

I suspect that as a percentage the panic buyers are a minority but it doesn't take long for even a small percent to strip the shelves over a few days.

The main supermarket chains are big boys and will get on top of this soon enough....But of course, for a while everyone low is going to panic a bit......Still, until normality, for those running low there's the chippy!

Rather aptly our local chip shop is run by Chinese.

Plenty of fresh and processed food in our village shops ... why?

Because since the onset of the crisis shopkeepers have shared out their stock equitably to their customers. They know most of them personally and their individual circumstances.

Customers let the oldies go to the front of the payment queue. There's no panicking, plenty of courtesy and jovial banter, and since early this morning there's been a steady stream of trucks arriving to unload even more supplies.

It would appear that if you support your local stores they in turn will support you.

You have to have a wry smile when you see which jobs are considered 'key workers'.

Healthcare professionals
Teachers
Local authorities
Farmers
Food production workers
Fire and Rescue
Police
Utilities workers

All of these groups have been utterly shafted in the past 10 years, seeing their wages fall and huge numbers cut and their calls for justice have been repeatedly ignored.

It's almost as if, that whole time, what we valued as a society was completely wrong...

You mean when compared to bailing out banks with tax-payers money, for example. Universal Credit. The tax-efficient filthy rich who pay little UK tax, if any.
And a footballer has 50 spare London homes to lend out.

You are bang on the money ST.

Some of the price gouging going on has been outrageous.

You omitted to add - free of charge

This footballer has looked after his future by investing in property whilst his wing partner has kindly donated all of his wages to the bookmakers

The point I was trying to make people aware of, is there are plenty of hard workers out there really struggling. Not even eligible for sick pay to pay rent , with the gig-economy.
The fact a footballer (not even 30 yet) can even afford 50 London homes, is not wildly disproportionate reward ?

I think that was more the point, and Zaha lending his houses was just a timely example of extremes.
