The types in those areas will be aware of the trends rather than just ignorance or self interest. Boris probably knows the difference between the reality and the exaggeration of figures to scare the public. We got a glimpse of that in that presentation.

Seriously?!

I knew the reaction that would get, but there is some seriousness to it. Boris will adapt to public opinions. Trouble is he’s dialled up the hysteria to begin with. Why do you think he walked out on Theresa May in Parliament? He knew he was going to get quizzed on exaggerated predictions based on a scenario they were still using that hadn’t reached anywhere close to what they said.

Now the government have realised they can lock up the country at will, why should they not use it regularly?

Undreamed of power and control, what opposition is there anyway.

People are out and about everywhere. You just can’t eat or drink inside premises. The only place you could be without a mask on funnily enough. Immunity by stealth or illusion of restrictions. Has always been a possibility, especially since end of summer.

Casper Schmeichel is epidemiologist and coronavirus pundit
"Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers says as the situation currently stands Schmeichel will not travel to Denmark to play, however the goalkeeper is more optimistic and criticised the decision as "political".

"I mean it is obviously politics, I don't think it has a lot to do with science," Schmeichel told Sky Sports."

What a w***er

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Johnson is an incompetent but his worst problem is lack of attention to detail.

The former PM May will have looked at the data and decided it was insufficient for this action.

And we see subsequently that scientists provided wrong figures.

I am against governments having such powers, and against the opposition supporting them.

May would have been so overcautious that we'd have almost been in a constant lockdown.

Covid vaccine: First vaccine offers 90% protection [Link]

While this is good news for people it’s worth taking a vaccine without years of knowledge on it, I’d be very surprised if it stops 90% of people getting Covid.

"The so-called interim analysis looked at the first 94 confirmed cases of Covid-19 among the more than 43,000 volunteers who got either two doses of the vaccine or a placebo. It found that fewer than 10% of infections were in participants who had been given the vaccine. "

An initial reading at least sounds like it may have stopped them getting infected, but who knows. In any case, potentially great news for those in vulnerable and elderly groups.

Yes. But it’s a lot different to what we’ve been hearing about how effective a vaccine will be so we’ll see. Vax and pharma companies will be protected from legal procedures so they’ve been given a bit of too much licence already.

It will be interesting to see how effective our vaccine(s) are in comparison. I'm no fan of 'big pharma' but in such an urgent situation needs must and all that..
