An initial reading at least sounds like it may have stopped them getting infected, but who knows. In any case, potentially great news for those in vulnerable and elderly groups.

I'm in that category, but damned if I'll be taking up the option of something that's been cooked up in 5 minutes (relatively speaking) and had minimal testing!

In my opinion a w***er for being an instant expert on something he is unqualified to spout on.

For pretty much every country excluding Asia the handling of the pandemic has been reactive as everyone was learning as they went along.

No government has got it right ( excluding Asia ),levels of competence and communication have been mixed.

A very important factor is that Asian folks have been through SARS, Avian flu and other similar strains, and know that wearing masks, social distancing and suffering lockdown are a necessary part of mitigating the effect.

Maybe KS has some medical qualifications he has been keeping quiet about

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

It doesn't look like we are learning much, does it?

The studies look very positive so hopefully the safety data will be too. I appreciate your situation though, as it's for the individual to weigh up their perceived risk from covid (based on health and age) versus any concerns they might have about the vaccine. A tricky call, and I guess those opting in early are dealing with certain unknowns (in addition to decreased covid risk) that will benefit those that hold off.

We will probably be indirectly forced to take a vaccine of some sort whether it be Pfizer’s or not through bans on travelling etc etc until we have taken it. This is a massive decision they are about to take. I hope they are ready for the potential backlash.

Funny that vaccine released after Trump loses his vote after Covid was the stick to beat him out of office.

Strongly expecting the venn diagram between the anti-lockdown/anti-maskers/impeding civil liberties crew and those refusing to take the vaccine to be a perfect circle.

"refusing" to take the vaccine. Quite a few people will not take the vaccine due to genuine concerns. There have been numerous real health side effects from plenty of vaccines. It's not really a whole conspiracy theory thing. You could always add "having been abducted by aliens" to your post for better effect.

Don't you believe in civil liberties then?

You raise an interesting point. I'd certainly be against our country stopping people from travelling abroad for such a reason, but at the same time can well understand why other countries might want to impose restrictions for inbound travellers. India take that approach with Yellow Fever for instance. You make your choice, they make theirs.

While I understand concerns, it is of course 'very good news' that this vaccine appears to be so effective, and if the safety data doesn't reveal anything concerning that too is more positive that if the opposite were true. Offering first right of refusal to vulnerable and elderly would appear to make sense, and as the months tick by that will hopefully feed into peoples reasoning regarding whether its a good idea to take it or not. It would appear to be perfectly rational for the elderly and especially vulnerable to elect to take it now, so if we get to the point of a year or two down the road, rejection of it will begin to look more emotional than anything else. But for now I can understand why some might be hesitant at something so rushed. That's out of necessity really though; a consequence of what we're dealing with.
