You're likely right looking at it in those terms to be honest, though that's detached from the point that was being discussed.

I’ve known excess deaths were up but not in a region that warrants all this. But never mind, I’m sure all those deciding and in favour of it won’t even notice the effects in their own and family life.

I watched that Dispatches on C4 last night. The most interesting bit was when they showed the self testing samples arriving by the box load. Some of the samples had leaked out of the tube onto other tubes they were packed in with therefore contaminating those making them false positive. I have always been a bit sceptical of the daily figures and this did nothing to ease those suspicions. Sending box loads of samples on a long journey to Ireland seems a hinderance to the whole process I thought it would be more regionalised.

When you also realise that the 15 minute rapid tests are all but useless (depending on what you read, 40-60% accurate, which is mental. High chances of false positives and negatives) and the ‘gold standard’ PCR test is itself only 60-90%, there are s***loads of false pos/neg results being sent out every day. False negatives being the worst outcome of course.

Essentially the govts 100bn rapid testing strategy is based on 40-60% accuracy. Madness. Complete waste of resources

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

I am for real, and average deaths are not abnormal for this time of year. You are mistaking seasonal deaths for C-19 deaths perhaps. As has been mentioned, more than once, all other deaths are lower than average. Ask yourself how this is possible. I am not a C-19 denier, or an 'anti-vaxxer', but people have been led to believe this is as bad as the Black Death. Which didn't wipe out the human race by the way, even though medicine was in the early stages of herbs and alchemy.

You make a valid point, and as a business owner I'm not detached from the impact of lockdowns myself unfortunately. At the same time, a terminal denial and rubbishing of ever facet and reality of this pandemic doesn't really help anyone either.

The threshold for action should possibly be set below the annihilation of the entire human race. Just my take.

I'm no lockdown proponent, but in the first wave the vast majority of them happened during the lockdown not before it happened. Hence Phils comments about there being a second uptick now.

So what do you mean, lockdown just in case? Looks good if the numbers are going up. But are they still going up? If not, why not? 2 weeks in to lockdown 2, where is the 'wave'? We should be at least having 1000 deaths per day, I mean, the scientists, and SAGE, said 5000 per day was likely. According to popular media*.

*popular? or populist? I get confused with the doublespeak these days.

Completely missed the point.

Not that I'm surprised.

Phil made perfectly valid points, but off you wander as per usual.. Talking to yourself.

I don't even support this second lockdown. Thoughts and ideas on a complex subjective area extend a bit beyond pointing at A or B. There clearly is a stark and unfortunate increase in deaths. Sorry that it's not quite enough to satisfy your idea of a 'wave'. 5000 was clearly out there, but it's still sad that so many people are dying (and the consequences of actions and inactions, which are all negative in their own way). Save a thought for them...for a change.

Points...

People making them, destroying them, people missing them, people validating and agreeing with them, people ignoring them...people loving and hating them.

Tescos and companies even want to sell you points.

If only there was a point to any of it....Maybe it's all pointless.

You're probably right. At least Tesco points can earn me a few tins of beans
