And the USA military take, is that personnel who are un-vaccinated will face consequences.

Personally I find mask mandates an insult on several levels but moving beyond that I'd agree that we will need time to understand just how serious this new 'variant' is.

You keep spreading this dangerous nonsense about them not working when there’s lots of studies out there to show that they slow down transmission rates.

[Link] (contains actual statistical data though and we know that you struggle with that).

You just don’t like the minor inconvenience of it and being told what to do because you’re a massive whiny man baby.

Stop already. Antagonistic posts are not necessary.

I feel like I've been having deja vu for a couple of years. Not sure many are going to welcome more restrictions. Personally fed up with it.

No issue with the anti-scientific, tin hatted nonsense in his post though?

Stirling and I have disagreed over the details of Covid and that's fine.
Based on previous form, I'd take Stirling's opinions over yours 99% of the time.

The name calling stuff needs to stop.

There are plenty of studies that both of us could pick out. There was nothing stated within my post that was inaccurate.

Here's one, with a different conclusion to yours for example.

If you are going to criticise me....fine, but be specific to what I said, not what you think I said. My post was centred on why masks are mandated, not on the small debatable effect they may or may not have in the real world.

I don't believe there is any need to worry. It would be tested but won't need huge trials again as the modifications needed would be tweaks, and not comprehensive changes.

I have read it could be ready in 100 days time. Which seems a long time to me, so if it does get a hold, I guess we will be under restrictions again.

The bigger danger is, I think, the growing resistance to any kind of restrictions, along with the anti-vax movement gaining additional ammunition from a "rushed" roll out. The number of people I see now refusing to wear masks in crowded places, observe social distancing and basic hygiene procedures, has increased markedly recently.

Some are just being bloody minded or selfish, whilst others just fed up with it all. Dangerous, though, whatever the reasons.

Agreed my daughter heard an expert today, apologies don’t know name, who said it is not particularly dangerous. They identified it after several young people complained of tiredness and a strange cough, nothing more. She confirmed only slight tweaks to vaccine would be needed

The sheer stupidity of the public never ceases to amaze. but then I look at our 'leaders' and I can see lots of similarities.

Whilst most virologists would back a basic stance on masks, distancing and cleaning, and you can legislate to a degree. What you can't do is force people to have a substance put into their body. that is one of the costs of a free society or stuff which may inhibit liberties.

And if you think your leadership is clueless ? You make your own informed decision. And when I say 'informed decision', of course that is subjective on the source of information and the intelligence of the readership.

The Government are making an absolute pigs @r5e of things at the moment. A Prime Minister who won't work weekends and a Home Secretary who is shunned by neighbouring countries.

I dislike this government as much as anyone else, but they are the government we have. They are in the hot seat, whether we like it or not, until we change them.

So we must back what they, with the benefit of scientific advice, decide. We must work together to fight this battle.

It's not just our government. It's a worldwide battle, led by the WHO.

Whilst you cannot mandate what people "put in their bodies" we do already control what people can do if they decide not to accept certain vaccines. Many countries won't grant a visa to people unless they have had yellow fever, hepatitis etc vaccinations.

As you pointed out, the US military are now getting tougher. So are our own NHS. This I am sure will increase. The unvaccinated, unless they can demonstrate a medical reason why they are unable to accept it, will find their work and social opportunities restricted. Airlines and shops may ban them. This will increase the pressure on them to play their part.

In the army, deserters get shot. I don't think we will go that far. Not yet anyway.

I read that too. It's only empirical evidence, not yet backed up by any statistics, but nonetheless hopeful. She admitted they didn't yet know what impact it will have on the vulnerable.

Anyone else doesn't include me BTW. Just saying it's a majority who actually prefer them to the other options. The last GE proved that. A WE reply to a post but I agree with the rest of it.

I heard who I think is the South African doctor who discovered this variant on LBC of all places this morning say the effects were mild and the UK and the world are massively overreacting. We’ll see if the government(s) wind back on this latest fear and public control campaign.
