I lived in Hooley until the age of 25 so it was a no brainer to support my nearest team. I was quite old though before I went to my first Palace match (10 I think). I went with my next door neighbour (who supported Wolves!!). We were playing Blackpool and Gerry Queen scored the only goal. Before moving to Australia 15 years ago I had been a season ticket holder for donkeys years. Watch every game over here on Optus sport or go to the casino and watch there. Last year I went to a friends wedding in Thailand. The bride lived in the middle of the country 4 hours north of Bangkok. Imagine my surprise when I saw her brother-in-law at the wedding in his Palace shirt! It was a few years old, but still his pride and joy.

Born in St Mary's maternity hospital (long since closed), Broad Green, Croydon. Lived near the Gloucester Pub (long since demolished) on Whitehorse Road and started going to matches with my Dad in 1970. Early heroes were John Jackson and Don Rogers. Have never stopped watching the boys and now travel up from East Sussex. The club has given me some great memories over the past 50 years and hopefully there will be many more to follow!

My Grandad and Dad were brought up in Streatham and Palace fans ,attended my first game in late 60s when more interested playing on the grass bank which is now where Sainsburys / Family stand is, previously Whitehorse End.
First real memory I can recall is that great John Hughes goal under the lights v Sheffield United must have also been early 70s, also remember him getting sent off v Everton when took their player out with a thigh high lunge.
Parents and I moved to near Buckingham North Bucks but still attend regularly and my eldest son has been indoctrinated into the club and sees more games then me.
Travel down from Milton Keynes on matchdays where there are a number of fans who travel down also, will be there Saturday. COYP

lived in New Addington, Thornton Heath and South Croydon until I was 15 when left school and joined the Army served for 26 years then worked at Southampton airport for 18 years during this time I was a staunch Palace fan going to Selhurst whenever I could. When I retired from the Airport in 2010 my wife brought me a season ticket straight after we came out of administration I still have the same seat. My first Palace game was in October 1958 a 9-0 win over Barrow hooked ever since. The majority of my life has been spent in the Portsmouth Southampton area. I have lived in Gosport since 1978. Since I got my season ticket I have missed 5 home matches.

Did anyone actually stay in the area? Quite revealing how many have moved away, myself included.

He has a spare seat in his Range Rover if you fancy a lift on match days.

I grew up in the 60's on Gipsy Hill, moved to Selhurst in the 80's then emigrated to the US in 2000. Went to my first game in 1966 - my Dad got enthusiastic after we won the World Cup. He stopped going but I used to go with friends from school in the 70's.

When I do get to come home it's really depressing to see how run down Croydon has become!

Born in Bristol family moved to London during the war. Never watched Palace until I was 17 in 1958. Was living in Sutton at the time and was at a loose end having torn knee ligaments playing football and a mate of mine asked me to go with him to a midweek match . I did and the rest is history. Been living in Lancashire since 1971 but as hooked as everyone else.COYP

Grew up in Bromley. My dad being American had no interest until via my mum he was nagged into taking me to Palace. First game 0-2 home defeat to Ipswich in '67. I was hooked.

I bought a house on South Norwood Hill and lived there '79-83 before heading for first the Kent countryside and then the Sussex coast where I have lived since '89.

I travel up with a group of fellow Palace fans that have become good mates so it's a good social day out usually only spoiled by the match itself !

I went to a Ralph McTell concert down here, I knew he came from Croydon, went to John Ruskin same as Kember and Roy He He said that Croydon was a good place to grow up and a good place to leave. So true because last time I went there to visit a couple of old friends I was of the same opinion as you it's now something of a sh""thole.
