In Florida in 1980 in a bar with my mate who asked the barman for a fag, the lady next to us gave him a very strange look until the barman explained to her he wanted a cigarette.

When Brookside started on C4 Barry or Terry were always saying 'Come Ed' before leaving the room. I spent months wondering who and where this Ed bloke was before having this scouse phrase translated for me.

Many years ago worked in an office with a Yank who used to get very annoyed when someone asked for a rubber ( to remove a one pencil mark) he would scream it’s not a rubber it’s an eraser.
You can guess what a rubber is in the US.

In American films a character will sometimes say something like “my wife was in the kitchen making eggs” which sounds like over sharing.
