When you look at our current squad and the lack of young players, and add in our financial problems, it looks very bleak. We can't keep giving the current squad new contract extensions until they retire.

We apparently tried to sign a few youngsters in January but who knows if we really would have got the deals done. We don't exactly have a good record in that department lol.

We've left it too long now and we're going to need nearly a full squad overhaul in the next few years. Steve, and the investors, have only themselves to blame. Years of over paying in transfers and wages have tied our hands.

Roy will only stay if we give him money but then that doesn't make sense if it's only a single year. That's not planning for the future. Steve will want him to stay as we've no money lol. The most infuriating thing is Mr Parish has disappeared. He couldn't wait to show his face when we were planning a new stadium and training ground but were these just smokescreens?

This is a major worry. It has been abundantly clear and still is where the squad has needed strengthening but we have failed to rectify this. Coupled with an ageing squad in other positions, then we may well need 6 or more players up to May 2021. Our present transfer history looks woefully short. Also SP hasn't been as vociferous as in the past.

We have one player target per position and aren’t interested in anyone else and start negotiations with 48 hours of windows left so it’s all sorted. I hope the owning clubs don’t find out that!

I missed the bit in the interview where SP outlined what we're going to change so the overall situation is improved, particularly in relation to transfer business.

Clearly he doesn't think he is doing anything wrong and comes out with a few generic sound bytes. Very worrying on the financial front.

Yup, he made his money in PR and this shows.

however, he is losing money in football... and it shows.

This jan gone, we should have gotten in 3 players to grow into their positions to be fully fledged starting 11 for august. LB, RB and striker.

Sell wilf in the summer - covers that receipt and swap like for like in the summer, position wise, even if they are younger. You gotta have faith.

So one full year on from when I started this thread, and nothing has changed. This is where we are with 4 months left

Out of contract

Roy
Schlupp
Sakho
Townsend
Benteke
PVA
McCarthy
McArthur
Clyne
Ward
Dann
Kelly
Cahill
Hennessey
Wickham
Henderson
Batshuayi (loan ends)

I would give new deals to McArthur, Schlupp and either Clyne or Ward or both depending on Ferguson.

The rest can leave, thank you for the time you have been and here and we move on!

Can I ask how you think we can replace all those you want out? Don’t disagree with your sentiments but will not be possible to replace them all in the summer

You do appreciate that there isn't a shop where you buy footballers? We have to convince other clubs to sell, and they get to name their price, which might exceed our budget, then we have to compete with other buyers in a massively crowded marketplace, and even then the law of averages suggests that up to half the signings won't quite be up to the significant challenge.

It's not a computer game.

And we’re not very good at it. Hence the backlog

So only 4 CBS! One who we signed as a midfielder and one who appears to be permanently injured, risky.
