He's unsubbable for a reason - even when he's not performing, he draws the attention of several opposition defenders at all times. Got several players booked today and one sent off at the end, so I think it turned out to be a good idea to keep him on.

Hasn’t performed often this season , if a couple off bookings and a sending off with a minute to go for an £80 million rated player is enough for you, fair enough, not for me.

Didn't say that he'd performed at his best this season, or that he's worth £80 million. But you suggested that he should be subbed when demonstrably, his presence on the pitch tied up Newcastle's players in keeping an eye on him, as is the case in every game. Part of the reason he's not performing so well this season is because there isn't another runner on the other wing who can also draw opposition players, so that it's very easy for other teams to double or treble up on Wilf since he's our main attacking outlet. And even when he's not playing well, he can suddenly produce something out of nothing.

Bloody brilliant today. The energy and intensity was superb. We swarmed all over them from the off.

Leader of the pack was Jimmy Mac; he had an absolute stormer. McCarthy put a great shift in too. Not really sure I can say the same of Kouyate. Goes MIA too often for my liking.

Overall though, delighted; we thrashed them 1-0

McCarthy is going to turn out to be a fantastic bit of business. I can’t see him being dropped now for the rest of the season.

the 80 million pound rating comes from someone who has no idea.

McCarthy has great delivery from corners, put one straight on Cahills head that crashed back off the crossbar.

Ayew works his socks off, BUT - misses too many clear-cut chances, most of the time try to take on too many players when a simple pass would have been better. And on the moaning scale - ten out of ten yesterday.

really big 'steady the ship' win yesterday.
IF we can beat Tesco bag boys next weekend we'll in theory only be 3 points off safety.
And what a change to see a proper home side attacking display at Selhurst
we may even beat somebody by more than 1 goal before seasons done!

We actually played well, on the front foot and looked far more dynamic in midfield and up front. MacArthur was my MoM closely followed by Ayew.

I was pleased we went direct a fair bit too and Benteke played his part there. But we still couldn’t score in open play. And boy did we miss some sitters.

Wonder how badly injured Kouyate is?

over the 24 games this season Ayew has been a better player than Zaha, I think that is fact rather than opinion now surely. Been absolute quality, instead of trying to slow play down and walk past people he picks it up and runs at them, did it in the first half and thought it was looking like another West Ham goal. Been great this year. No sentiment in football I’m afraid. Wilf you’ve been great, but time to go.
Get some youngsters in.

Good game today. Guitita ( good as usual), ayew quality, Kouyate decent, Cahill very good , liked macarthy.
Thought Tosun should have come on sooner for Benteke and Townsend/Meyer could have replaced the unsubbable Zaha

The problem is that the money will not be re-invested. It will be used to pay down debt. Look at the AWB money. So, unless it will be spent on a replacement, which it wont, I would keep him.

Whilst I’m a critic of Hodgson’s style of play this season and his rigid methods, I have to acknowledge that to amass 33 points so far this season with minimal contribution from Zaha, Townsend, Benteke and Luka is an impressive achievement.
I have previously put their bad performances down to Hodgson’s methods, but just maybe they need to look at themselves and ask if they could be contributing more.

I cannot fault any of the players for their performances yesterday. Those not at the game will see the 1-0 scoreline and might conclude it was a close game.It was certainly NOT - Newcastle were disappointing and were well beaten.A 4-0 scoreline would not have flattered our team.

Made for a very pleasant drive back to the south coast and my wife said I was beaming like a gameshow dollybird when I returned to my abode!
