Billy Gilmour came down to Chelsea from Rangers. In against a strong Liverpool side last night and played brilliantly. Only 18. Makes you wonder why we put Scott Banks straight out on loan back to Scotland. Could have been in and around the first team, with a few appearances perhaps from the bench once we were safe. I fancy the big difference here is Frank Lampard vs Iceland Roy.

I have never seen Gilmour play but I am informed that he likes a tackle and does not fear bigger more physical opponents.Buzzes around in the midfield but as he is not large of stature this could work against him in the long run.

Football fan logic; Young Scottish player plays well = Scott Banks should be in our first team.

Maybe he's not ready for PL football yet and will benefit from playing regular first-team football in Scotland rather than for our underachieving U23 side?

This season the 18 year old only made 4 apps for Dundee Utd, 2 of those from the bench.
Last season he made 15 apps for Clyde, 10 off the bench.
These statistics would suggest that he is not ready for a PL relegation battle and accordingly was loaned out to continue his football education at first team level.

Perhaps we should not have made such a fanfare about signing him then - if we wanted expectation to be commensurate with reality.

Can we drop the "Iceland Roy" references. Surely we should be celebrating his achievements with Palace, which so far have been achieved on a comparative shoestring.

Absolutely.
I have been fulsome in my praise for Hodgson for his achievements at our club on a comparative shoestring.
The football might be somewhat disappointing at times but the ends have justified the means.I doff my hat.
