Max Meyer's alleged wages have been brought up quite a few times as no-one seems to know where this figure has come from. My understanding is that it's about half of what you quoted.

Why is that your understanding? I have seen many claims that it is 125.000 and none that it is 60.000.

Furthermore, he was a really sought after player when we signed him. Many clubs wanted him, such as Arsenal. He was coming free. There was the need to offer him something amazing in order to get him to sign.

No buying fee, but 6.5 million on 4 years, making a total cost of 26 million!! Not played for this money.

Other claims say £60k. Not much point in arguing about it if we don’t actually know.

For me the jury is out on Bentenke. If he can play like has in the last few games then he is worth keeping around for one more year. Sakho just seems unable to stay fit and so I would reluctantly listen to offers given his age. Personally I think if Meyer is happy to stay then I can still see him having a future at the club, but he may not have that patience now that Roy will be with us for another year. Luka looked better in 20 minutes on Saturday than he has looked for a long time, so maybe he just needed a break and some competition to shake the cobwebs off. He is still probably the best long passer of the ball and on his day is probably our best central midfielder. Like a number of players it's all about whether he can get back to his old self. A year ago most of us would have happily accepted Riedewald leaving, but now many of us want him to get more of a chance. Like Meyer it may all come down to patience. Wayne is fine as number two. We're too small a club to attract a better GK to sit on the bench in my opinion.

To be honest, there is no one I'd be happy to see leave, especially given how small our squad is. A big factor will be who we bring in.

I agree with this and the other posts which worry about who is coming in if we are offloading. I would avoid clearing out too many even when bringing in replacements as without some sort of handover you get a bit of a void. The older heads are worth having on their way out to keep the club culture and spirit etc.

That said, I would probably reluctantly agree with not renewing Sakho's contract at the end and listening to offers, but we really would need to get some cbs of the future lined up as ours are all towards the end of their lifespan.

Of course goes without saying Wickham and Sorloth are dead wood and it would make almost no difference to the club if they ceased to exist so they can go if you can find anyone mad enough to take them off our hands, although I guess with Sorloth we do have potential bidders.

Rubbish.

Hennessy a quality prem keeper and a great option at #2.

Meyer gives something different and changed the game regularly when he enters the fray.

Sakho our most talented defender when fit. Needs a chance to get back to that.

Luka. Doesn't even deserve a reply.

Benteke - starting to show some great form.

We need to be adding to the squad...not depleating it.

Only people i'd consider moving on are Dann and Townsend. Love them both, but they need to be playing.

The squad is small so I wouldn't want to lose too many.

The centre backs as a whole are getting pretty old - there's a good chance we could lose Cahill and Dann summer after this when they'll be 34 and 35 by which point Tomkins will be 32 so you'd want to get a younger centre half in to that group this summer. Sakho makes most sense to go - paid the most, plays the least, and you'll get a club take him just for the name. Shame because he's clearly so talented, but he's a (barely) walking injury.

The Max Meyer square peg thing is obvious, you'd likely get some money for him. He is one of the younger ones in a fairly old midfield group though which makes me reluctant.

Would actually keep WH. He's no Guaita but he's looked alright when he's stepped in this season and was good competition last. Getting a young keeper in is all well and good but for every 1 Henderson there's 20 Scott Flinders.

Can't see anyone stumping up the cash for Wilf. Could well be Wickham's summer if we can get another forward in and I don't expect to see Sorloth again.

Then bringing in you're looking at, ideally all under the age of 26, -

CB (Need)
RB (Ferguson?)
LB (Unless we see Riedewald as a potential ~20 game a season cover for PVA)
Winger (Need)
Forward (Need)

That'd be a great summer.

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

The squad is also old in football terms with the following players currently in their 30s or will be later this year :

Ward,Cahill,Tomkins,Dann,Kouyate,McArthur,Sakho,Benteke,McCarthy,Kelly,Van Aanholt.

I think the club will try to offload some of the older players from the list above and also Wickham.
Maybe Hennessey will want to leave for regular first team football.

Out of these three, I'm embarrassed to say that I would keep Benteke ahead of Meyer and Sakho. Sakho is injured 90% of the time. Meyer rarely plays, and when he does, he isn't very good.

Benteke isn't good, but at least he's always healthy.

Challenge that. Most times he's come on I think he's picked up the energy, got on the ball and made things happen. Wilf certainly perks up when Meyer comes on.

You just have to look and see who are not going to get a game next season to see who we should be moving on .One or two injuries and the picture can change though so a full squad is a must .

Goalkeepers . We have one very good and a decent backup . Haven't seen Henderson but it looks more like we should be looking for another rather than offloading

Defenders .I think we all know we need a couple of full backs rather than offloading . The way we defend deep our Centre backs will still be here when they are 40 , experience more than mobility being the key attribute .Injuries this season has shown we need them all though if we are looking to cut the wage bill the oft injured Sakho is the obvious contender .
Is Jach still in the running to be given a chance or has he been written off ?

Mid . Meyer has been a real disappointment though I still don't know what his best position is or even if we have it in our system . Im on the fence with him the rest fit as an interchangeable unit .

Forwards . We need to strengthen here. Unless Wickham can show something pre season that indicates he will be pushing for a start he has to go .

The board . The Yanks need getting rid of and replacing with a football person with deep pockets

And we still need a striker

I agree with most of what you say except Meyer. I would go as far as saying he shouldnt even be in the squad. He has done absolutely nothing for us since he has arrived. I am shocked at how poor he has been.

Im not sure how long is left on Dann's contract but id like to see him stay longer.

Townsend- I really like him but I don't think he would be massively missed.

hahahahahahahah

He is a good player in my opinion, however he doesn't fit into Hodgesdon's style of playing, I think he was added to the squad to play the deep role that Cabaye Played so well, so if you compare him to Cabaye you see his short comings in that position.

Cahill is head and shoulders above any other defender at the club. Sakho when fit is good cover for Tomkins nothing else.

Have you watched his performances this season ? He has been savagely average at best all season and got torn a new one by Moy at home to the weed. Pace is letting him down, and to a certain degree McArthur is mopping up his errors.

Benteke - starting to show some great form.

Agreed, the withdrawn number 9 role suits him better.

Only if it betters what we have

Dann and Townsend are you actually mental sorry mate but that's crazy talk.

Looking at the last programme there were 22 names - giving three places that could be filled.

I am thinking about natural wastage. We have just lost Cenk Tosun due to injury taking us down to 21.

We have five Academy players out on loan plus Jach and Sorloff.

Hopefully, now we have sufficient (but not enough for Europe), Roy can release the shackles and some young players can be given opportunities to follow AWB.

I juries in 30s can be career ending due to time needed to recover and the pressure from younger men. We are unlikely to find takers for our players approaching their contract ends so a blending of the new (opportunities to learn) with the established seems a way forward. Any older player coming to contract end with a major injury (unable to encourage younger players on the training field) should be let go. There is potential for the 2021/2 season to start with a squad that none of us would recognise - being lead into battle by a manager attracted to Selhurst Park. COYP
